Q efmelana' Qechbafea 1.964 df zulu Z0 may an .mm CLEVELAND'S VICE PRINCIPAL SINCE 1929 ITH THIS ISSUE of the 1964 AQUILA, I bid farewell to Cleveland. It is difficult to realize I am the only vice principal Cleveland has ever had. The thirty-five years have gone by rapidly and have been busy years, full, and challenging. They have been rich in friendships and opportunities to serve onels fellow-men and have offered associations that have been very rewarding. I have been proud of our school's record in scholarship, in athletics, and I am now particularly pleased that our school morale is at an all time high. My wife and I will soon be leaving on an extensive trip to Europe, the Holy Land, Egypt, and North Africa. Wherever I may journey, my heart and prayers will always be at Cleveland as the better part of myself has been left here. I have no fear for the future of the school. The symbols of our idealism are ever with us. We are fortunate that our colors are red and white. The white stands for purity of purpose, the ideals for which we strive, the red symbolizes courage, bravery, and the will to do. Our mascot, the eagle, chose not the ease of protection, but rather the lofty mountain pinnacles where he struggles against rain, snow, and bitter storms. His reward is the freedom of the skies and his home the blue vault of heaven. , To say farewell is too final. I shall just say good luck and God bless you. ' RAY K. IMUS 2

THE CLEVELAND EAGLE Down you swoop from lofty throne in heavenis blue And up with prey in beak, majestic bird of fame, Vaulting through the sky, in every part of you Is something that recalls to us old Clevelandys name' Dawn to distant dusk welll keep your form in view! Head, in feathered laurels decked so worldly wise, Our fine administration board does symbolize. Power in your backbone! senior class designed, Keeping close, in wings the flighty juniors find, In your tail, the sophomores trailing on behind: Not as bone and feathered skin, but firmly bound Safe in your heart where all activities are found. See your talon bold! I hear the Victory cry Wheii our team is the conquerorg and in your eye A stage aglow in colored lights I can espy. Your single misted feather loosed into the air Names some memory fond, and is, with Zephyifs care Endowed to River Time to float and linger there. -NICK DrMARTrNo 4
