Iain: tannin zednik zeiman ziH zipp zislke zosIov juniorsl189 sophomore smorgasbord, class parties with ten people present, floats that flopped, countless boxes of polly doodles, all are at an end. perhaps the class of '70 didn't accomplish everything it set its goals on but no one can deny that it had fun trying. although some may doubt the existence of spirit, those who have been active can surely testify to the excitement of participation. for some, the past three years have been a continuous series of football games, dances, class council meetings, committee meetings, pep rallys, baseball games, and still more dances. for othersl they meant coming to school at 8:29 and leaving promptly at 2:45. and for some, they were years of creativity and expansion, of learning about oneself and about others. the senior theme might have been communi- cation-'70 , because ours was the class that broke the communication barrier with congratugrams, dessert bowls, and student-run assemblies. although the class of '69 was in the process of change, we are the product of that change, and will surely succeed. 190lseniors emile abouhassan marcia abraham ilene abramovitz mike abrams richard abrams gary ackerman addu-i- .. 7.,4.. -, , jeffrey adell richard adter carole adler katie agin senior officers in a class of their own peter albright barbara alexander ann allen barbara allen michael allen david allenick carm amato victor amster Iarry amsterdam jean anderson sharon anderson beth andrews gail andrews debi arbitman jan arnesen bill arnold arlene ascherman john azzofine patty arnstein joseph aseff richard bauw'n roger arsham tony aseff penny bacuus JEWISH PAINTERS SOCIAL CLUB JEWISH UNION PAINTEPS REYIPED CLUB CARPENTERS LOCAL UION IVSO .n. bill bader paul badger mike bahnsen debbie bailey joan bailus carolyn bainer thomas balke carolyn barron lee batdorff judy baum sue baum marc bauman larry bayer sarah beeler melodie begleiter seniorsl193 sylvia he: 1-.ovitz jay balkuwttz roberta behrens dale bendula jaye benjamin Iinda berger marlene bergrin dan belman betsv benes barbara berger ken bergren jim berkman , 194lseniors gary berlinger debbie barman scott barman mark bernstein joan berris phil bialer janice biales mark bianchi kim bissett Cindy black bonnie bleiweiss andrea bloch marilyn bloch robbin bloch rachel bond joan bookatz rosa borenstein anna bory louise botnick beth bowles barbara boylan kim brandfast lawrence borgione debbie boswell bob bower mary bowman judy braff michael braun seniorsl195 scott braver man debbie brockman sue bronson david brooks barbara brown carol brown 196lseniors janice brown larry brown nadine brown anita buckholtz david buettell jim buffington karen burstein steve butnick bruce caplan candy Lgrm ' 'gm greg case kim caswell janet century andy chapin dennis Christopher 1 b william christy marta coblitz diane cohen howard cohen neil cohen renee cohen sen iorsl 197 girls' council helps a senior girls' council members concentrate on pending social events. Jim A. b gagging. xdvuh Wat v -.. J:- t - -x, .sqmwx IA 1970 was the last year at heights for assistant principal albert daugherty, who is retiring. waiter p. kincaid, director of education in the school system and a personal friend of mr. daugherty, has written the following tribute to him. albert daugherty's career in the Cleveland heights-university heights schools spans the decades. he came directly from the university in midwinter in a raccoon coat and pork-pie hat- joe college himself. with characteristic energy and foresight he plunged into the task of helping the junior high school science teachers transform a dull, shallow course into a model curriculum years ahead of the field. fresh from triumphs in big ten college matches, he coached boys in fencing and was more agile than his best pupils. never one to follow the crowd, he relaxed by painting landscapes and writing poetry. he wrote good poetry-and he still does. his skill with a pen is well known-a staunch advocate and a worthy opponent, his keen wit tempers his incisive logic. but his real impact has been his influence on people of all ages. albert daugherty is an inspiring teacher; in the classroom he has few peers. he has been confidant and guide to generations of adolescents in four of our five secondary schools, and more recently to dozens of young teachers. a family man who lives quietly, he has friends everywhere. an administrator of unquestioned integrity he has had a hand in the development of most of the exciting new courses in the high school. as a professional he has made his mark on the curriculum-but that will pass. his mark on our lives will endure and deepen with the years. albert daugherty, we salute you! 268ldaugherty fpmw- -' v 2'2 f. daughertyHGQ there are many people who have contributed to the making of caldron, 1970. the caldron staff has spent hours after school, organizing individual pages. our photographers have taken and retaken countless pictures of heights students and their activities. mr. salvator, our advisor, saw us through several crises during the year. and there are others who weren't editors, or staff members, or photographers, but also devoted much time and patience to create a memorable yearbook. under mr. rauss and mr. sztul, the business staff handled our sales campaign, balanced our budget, and helped distribute the completed book. lisa houck did the unique drawings found on our divider pages. all the individual senior and faculty pictures in the book were provided by mr. stan jung of photoland studios. the poem in our introduction is entitled passing faces , and was written by dorothy handelman, a former heights student. katie agin, our typist, was indispensable. as caldron's editors we have received invaluable guidance from mr. jim parkinson, our company representative. we have also had an unforgettable experience. we hope that you get as much out of caldron as we have. barbara greenwald fran pergericht 270lacknowledgements busmess staffep. sukis, c. amato, mr. rauss mr SZtuI ' ' . d. halberstal, p. friedman. 1970 caldron staff advnsor ................. mr. lou salvator co-editors ............. barbara greenwald fran pergericht academic editors .......... bonnie bleiweiss randy pollock staff ..................... sue lancaster activities editor ................ bob sachs staff .................. marla bernbaum debbie goldberg carole roth ads editor ................. marla orchen photography editors ............ gary bond marc schiff staff ................... paul deoliveira phil henry senior editors ............... linda berger caroIe meisler staff ..................... lori kaufman bonnie savren Iaura stecklar sports editor ................. dave placek staff ...................... debbie cala jim davis seth heald student life editor ........... debi arbitman staff ..................... linda cooper renee stovsky underclass editors .......... hollie goldberg susie wolf staff .................... joyce elswick Cindy gardner soheyla gharib faculty business managers ..... mr. alan rauss mr. joe sztul typist ....................... katie agin acknowledgementsl271 1 , . .
