Its members do not move in closely packed lines with the perfect rhythmic beat of military maneuversg instead they advance with the steady stride of hundreds of eager marchers all building for the future. They demonstrate the joys of hard Work and relaxing play, of good fellowship and clean sportsmanship. The paraders have heads high, for they are proud of all that goes to make up Heights High's Passing Parade. nf N, is 5 is ii ,Z 53 5 is 5 if x farwgggx Ei S if gi. Mr. Dewald, head of the science department, congratulates Robert Mook, winner of the medal for excellence in science. As the music begins, the seniors prepare to take the long march down the aisles of the auditorium. The trudge down the road wasnit easy. There Were many obstacles to overcome in the attainment of the Outstanding Graduate honor. In each class one girl and one boy are given this reward. Gaining it took a great deal of time and effort, but the result should be gratifying to the Winners. There are senior awards also for Science and Language. Ex- tra study, patience and extraordi- nary reliability helped gain these dis- tinctions. Highest honors can,t be Won by all, but receiving a diploma from a school such as Heights is honor enough. At the senior assembly the A II's present the flags to the A I's. , , Zend' On Thursday morning, May twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two thousand students of Heights High filed into the auditorium to pay homage to former students and classmates, one hundred and twenty strong, who had lost their lives in the service of our country in the Second World War. 10 WWW MMWM On this day the school honored these soldiers by dedicating two plaques, financed by the graduating classes of '43, '44, ,4S, '46, '47 and contribution from the current student body. In this Way the school made certain that these alumni will never be forgotteng we will strive always to keep the freedoms for which they so valiantly fought. l l Zecldcafdcwz Always ready to lend a helping hand, the Custodial Department has served the school faithfully for many years. Making life at Heights more pleasant is their key objective as they go about their many and varied tasks. The eight people who comprise the staff do their Work, asking no thanks but the gratification they ultimately receive from a job well done. They have earned a place in the hearts of all of us, and that is Why, therefore, we the Senior Class proudly dedicate the CALDRCN for 1948 to the Custodial Department of Heights High. Mr. Smith checks over some of his records ' in his office. In the shop Mr. Hanson, Pop Leuen- berger, and Mr. Rossi work on one of the 1001 jobs they do to make school more pleasant. Mr. Neccina, Mr. Friedenthal, Mr. W'ong, and Mr. Senter toil in the furnace room to keep us comfortable. 4556 a cwzlenlfa IN'fRCDEJUCITCJR'Y . F A C U LT Y . SE N ICJR S . UIVlJEI CI.A.SSlES . X' f Qi! reel There can be no Parade without the faculty. Members of this group serve as the marshals and through their sympa- thetic direction know in just what cadence to keep their followers stepping. Whether in academic or social activity, the teachers set the pace and call the turns so that the movements of the Passing Parade are kept up to Heights High standards. The stu- dents look to these leaders for assistance and guidance-for they know that the faculty are their friends. 14 wi' QW! 1. A.,- -yx in xx 'Ulm' . . ,....,.,M K Frank L. Wiley E. E. Morley Thoburn Davis Marian L Whifsey Roy M. Flint Hugh V. Perkins Helen K Wallace As you can easily see, this page is devoted to the executives of our school and of our system. At the top are Mr. Frank Wiley and Mr. Thoburn Davis, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Schools, respectively. Though We don't see much of them, we are grateful for the service they render us in maintaining fine schools throughout the Cleveland Heights system. It is to Mr. E. E. Morley that We owe a smoothly run and Well equipped high school. Miss Helen K. Wallace, though she is dean of girls, is always ready to help a boy with a problem as Well. She is also responsible for many of the school's most successful social affairs. Mr. Roy M. Flint, our under- standing and diligent dean of boys, has the respect of every boy at Heights. Mr. Hugh Perkins, the Army's gift to Heights, is Mr. Flint's extremely able co-Worker. It is he Who makes out the school's schedules and helps Mr. Flint keep our boys on the right path. These are four who help us during our brief stay at Heights, but the one Whose intelligent, sincere, and friendly advice has helped us to choose our programs and make our choice of the right college is Miss Marian Whitsey, our educational counselor. Little do We realize how much we really owe to these seven people. 13? af Wee 74 . . 0 An important cog in the smooth run- ning of our school affairs is the office. Every student benefits by the services of the office staff who H11 out transcripts and permanent record cards, requisition sup- plies, compile the absence bulletin, and take care of passes. A treasure room of knowledge is our library, and the keepers of the books are our three capable librarians who give willingly of their time and efforts helping students in their daily tasks and opening the door to pleasure reading. A broken Hnger! A bad cold! Although you may not know what to do about it, you will find relief in the haven of the medical office. The nurse and doctor along with student aids care for sick students and arrange senior examinations. To add a military touch Mr. Ruppert, m e c h a n i c a l drawing teacher, football coach, and former Marine, and Mr. Bach- tel, art teacher and former navy man, have joined the faculty. Teaching at Heights became a family affair for Mr. P. T. Lorz when his brother Mr. F. Lorz began to teach biology. Re- placing Miss Manning in the Spanish De- partment is Mr. Simon. New to Heights, but already old friends of the students are Mr. Miller, Mrs. Beck, Mrs. Rieke, and Misses Lois Clark, Cooney, Florence Bromelmeier Otto Budde Dorothy Bulkley Commercial Mathematics Art 4,4 '47- '42 Fred Burnham Karl Christman Lillian Clark Language Biology History Anderson, and Dillon. One of Miss Crane's fondest hopes was at last realized this year when the girls' gym staff was in- creased to three by the addition of Miss Horn and Miss Graham. Our library ex- perienced a complete turnover with the departure of Miss Case and her assistants and the arrival of Miss Robinson, Miss Parr, and Mrs. Owen. The faces of such good friends as Miss Case and Miss Wiswall. long associated with Heights, are missed, but the new friends are certainly wel- comed and have already found a place in the hearts of the students. We must not forget, however, the great majority of our teachers who have been at Heights a long time, under whose guidance Heights stu- dents have gone forward year after year, to futures in which memories of Heights and their teachers will always remain. Their stride will soon have to change, for after three years of study, clubwork, and friendships gained here, the class members are now ready to step out of their carefree high school days, saunter, into the fast moving march of a problem- filled world. Although the classes of 1948 may never again all press forward to- gether, their members are connected by a common bond--the knowledge gained and pleasant memories shared when they were active members of Heights High School's Passing Parade. sl , x' - xv ,, s ' 5 5 N X s N F, 3 in if lv MsQ'?fw-f 3 xnw , sg., J K ,M 'ii' rf, ,qs 2 , 5? CAMERA SHY - JANUARY PAUL DOWLING EDWIN REICHEL CECIL WALTON WILLIAM WILSON CAMERA SHY - JUNE NANCY KOSLEN JOEL ROSENBERG BENNETT SCHOEN ANDREW SALAMON Oawmacldzg NANCY CUTTING A glowing smile and friendly hello,' describe the pleasing personality of Nancy Cutting. As president of the Girls' Cabinet she was well known and liked by all the girls at Heights. She held the office of treasurer for G. A. A., Junior Literary Club and her Senior Class. In her three years at Heights she included Boosters and Friendship Club among her activities. Taking all of this into consideration we are not surprised that she was elected Outstanding Girl Graduate of the January Class of 1948. MARVIN METSCHIS The name of Marv Metschis, the Outstanding Boy Graduate of the January Class, was well known to the stu- dents of Heights. On looking back through the B. 81 G. of the fall of 1947, one may see his pleasing personality portrayed by his humor column. Anyone who attended the Heights Players productions or the Band and Orchestra Concerts regularly, will remember seeing him. Besides be- ing in these organizations he was also active in N. H. S., Quill and Scroll, and many others. Congratulations, carry on the good work. you undertake. Bob. President of Senior Lit secretary of the Student Coun cil, vice president of Combined Friendship and a member of the National Honor Society are only a few of the in terests of Nancy Loeb this year s Outstanding Girl Grad uate. Her enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate to the very nth degree were appreciated by all who came in con tact with her. Her friendly personality and easy manner will leave an impression in the minds of the faculty as well as the student body Good luck Nancy in whatever 'KTall, dark, and handsome a very common phrase for such an uncommon student as Bob Sepessy Outstand ing Boy Graduate of the une class His leadership ability was recognized by his fellow students for they elected him president of the Student Council and of Gamma H1 Y. Hirsch exam ' ima Aided by seven returning lettermen, who formed the nucleus of this year,s squad, the Tigers finished a successful season, ending sec- ond to undefeated Elyria, in the Lake Erie League. The Tigers tripped Glenville in the season,s opener 26-0, as Alan Greenberg led the scoring with two touchdowns in his first varsity game. The Hilltoppers were handed their initial loss, 21-13, when the strong second-half attack of East Tech,s Artisans proved too powerful. The traditionally close game with the Lakewood Rangers ended in a 14-14 tie. Top play of the game came when 231 pound tackle, John Zanetti, recovered a blocked kick and rambled into pay-dirt to score the first touchdown of his career. Playing their best game of the season, the injury-riddled Tigers severely trounced a highly favored Lorain powerhouse 41 -0, with Greenberg, Wilhelm, DeRussy, Grove, Pollack, and Atma all Hguring in the scoring. Led by DeRussy's nineteen points and Yokel's brilliant pass-receiving, the Tigers were on a rampage the following week, as they coasted through a 39-6 victory over East Liverpool. In the next game Vic Janowicz, Elyria,s All-Ohio back, proved too much for Heights and the Tigers fell 20-12 before the leaders of the Lake Erie League. Bob Sepessy brought Heights rooters to their feet when he intercepted a Janowicz pass and raced fifty yards for Heights' Hrst score. CHAMPS AGAIN The Heights varsity basketball squad this year again grabbed top honors in the Lake Erie League, as they won seven of their ten league games. The Vanmen began by drubbing West Tech, Lincoln, and Warren. They lost their first league game to an experienced Elyria five, SS-41, but came back to romp over Lorain S7-39, to start their drive for the L. E. L. crown. The Hilltoppers lost their second game, this time to Canton McKinley, despite Weiss' twenty- four points, but bounced back to triumph over Cuyahoga Falls 45-44, Lakewood 42-33, and Shaker 38-34. Schneider scored nineteen points while playing his final high school game as the Tigers clawed Shaw 49-37. Elyria came to Heights and squeezed out a SS-53 sudden death overtime win over the Hilltoppers in a real thriller. Rendlesham put in twenty-three markers as the Bengals got back on the victory road by trouncing Lorain 61-39. The next two weeks gave the Hilltoppers two close decisions as they dropped Lakewood 33-30, and tripped Shaker 46-45. Finish- ing the season the Tigers were upset by Shaw S2-44, but came back strong to top Ashtabula 44-32. The boys were crowned District Class A Champs as they whipped Lake- wood in the tournament Hnals but dropped their second decision of the year to Canton McKinley in the Regionals at Youngstown. 104 HEIGHT MERME Front row: B. The many important duties of the Society include tutoring cer- tain students who have been absent for a long period, reading to sight-saving pupils, and collecting tax stamps, thus enabling the club to award scholarships to deserving students every semester. Each month the society has an evening meeting at which pertinent problems are discussed. Our National Honor Society, under the supervision of Miss Whit- sey, is indeed a great chapter, for its members hold the flame of knowledge high, and keep it brightly burning. N. H, S. CALDRUN ASSISTANTS QUILL 8: SCROLL Every year, when the leaves begin to fall, Caldron season rolls around. From then until spring, 202 is the scene of bed- lam. Hours of work lie ahead for every- one from Mrs. Liston and the section editors, photographers, and mounters to the many assistants. But the gremlins work harder than anybody else, putting un- known individuals in group pictures and snatching flash-bulbs out of cameras. Mr. Behney and his financial wizards have their worries too. In spite of everything, the Caldron comes out every year. And well- here it is. If it's a gold pin--if it,s in the shape of an old fashioned quill pen and scroll, you can be sure that its wearer is a member of Quill and Scroll and is on the Crcsf, Cal- Jrou or Black and Gold staffs. You can also be sure that the owner of a Quill and Scroll pin has done superior work in writ- ing, editing, or business management to merit this honor. Members are initiated into this honorary group for writers every semester, and ac- ceptance into membership is the goal of every high school student who hopes to become a writer. All three staffs cooperate effectively with the support of the English department which has for ten years sponsored the Cresf. This year, under the supervision of Mrs. Stoffer, The Hermes completed its seven- teenth year of publication, as the official organ of the Latin students of Heights High. Because of the rising costs of print- ing, The Hermes appeared this year to the Latin students of Heights, Roosevelt, Rox- boro, Monticello, and many other schools and colleges throughout the United States, in the form of a mimeographed magazine, instead of the customary printed paper. This is the group which is in charge of before-school broadcasts, record- ings, morning announcements, and music for various activities. A special service rendered by the Broadcasters to language classes is the presentation of different re- cording of literature or drama, which the classes have been studying. Besides their many school activities, Heights Broadcasters have branched out and now have two radio programs a Week on WSRS. The program Heights High Presents gives its listeners a synopsis of the different phases of life at our school. They also present an all musical show at 2:30 in the afternoon. SEVEN SISTERS The Heights Players' fall production, The Seven Sisters,', an Hungarian comedy, provided an enjoyable evening for the audience. Whenever a production is presented, however, both fun and work occur back stage. One of the most important Mbehind the scenesu jobs is the one assigned to the make-up crew. They are shown here busy with grease paint and powder, adding the finishing touches to the players before they make their entrance. . The Mothers, Club serves a dinner between the rehearsal of the acts at the dress rehearsal. At this time the stage crew, the make-up crew, the players, mothers, Miss Dina Rees Evans, and Mr. Freyman get together for some relaxation before the Hnal thrill of the actual production. . Working diligently on the stage sets is the stage crew. Their work includes studying the positions of the furniture and then erecting the set. At last! The Big Night arrives! With all their hurrying . . . scurrying . . . and worrying, Heights Players' productions, from the moment the curtain rises, are an immediate success. jMo FoR DAY On Saturday, December 6th, the Heights Broad- casters literally took overn Radio Station XYQIMO. W'ith Roger Hippsley holding down Dave Baylor's job as station manager, and twenty-three other Broadcasters assuming various posts, the station was run smoothly for a whole broadcasting day. Other positions were occupied by Jimmy Yasinow, in charge of publicityg Bill Greenbaum, who subbed for Howie Lundg and Norm Nehamkin, chief en- gineer for the day. Included in the announcing staff were john A. Klein, Lee Miller, Jimmy Weinraub, and John C. Klein. Jack Glick, Don Samuels, Sandy Davis, and Bob Steinberg completed the engineers. Selling commercials and programs fell to Al Korman, Bob Fox, Bob Bandelow, and Morry W'eisman. Helping Chuck Dolin with continuity writing were Harriet Frost and Lou Briskin. Acting in the key position of traffic manager was Betsy Hauser, while Judy Wfeiss and Ruth Whitenaan took over the job of contacting national magazines for Broad- casters and the station. Under the splendid leadership of Doon Evans and Leonard Freyman these dramatists are trained in all fields of the theater. The Little Theater provides the nucleus for Players' activities. Each Thursday a short experimental drama is given, followed by the post mortem compliments and criticisms of the audience. Twice a year the Players give a public presentation. In the fall the group donned peasant costumes to present the buoyant Hun- garian comedy, Seven Sisters. The springtime saw Shakespeare,s immortal Twelfth Nightv done with a deft Heights Players' touch. Perhaps, who knows, some of these same players will one day see their names spelled out in Broadway lights. 128 l J l II 1111 SllL'f,HHf'11l'.D61lI1lS. S111i1l1.Less. Ruliins. Wvril. Following this the group recited the Thespian oath, led by Doc Evans, the sponsor. Thespians is to Heights Players what the National Honor Society is to Heights. 4111 mr. The purpose of Hi-Y, which is a national or- ganization, is to create, maintain, and ex- tend throughout the school and com- munity high standards of Christian char- acter. This high purpose, which belongs to 220,000 high school youths throughout the United States, is re-emphasized by Heights Hi-Y each semester in a formal induction of new members held in a Heights church with parents, friends, and members present. The combined officers of Hi-Y under the supervision of Paul P. Williams, P r o g r a m Secretary of the Heights Y. M. C. A., arrange and present these very impressive services. Hi-Y chapters participate in many va- ried and Worthwhile activities during the course of a school year. In chapter meet- ings time is spent in periods of devotion, thoughtful consideration of basic prob- lems facing high school youth, roundtable discussions, and hearing speakers represent- ing varied fields of life. As an organization, Heights Hi-Y has done much in the field of service this year. 134 LPH l'iI'0I1IL 1'ufi'5 'l':lylm', Gzlrrett. Cor- Hell. Dimski. This group was started at Heights in 1940 as a War service group. At that time Red Cross did its share in helping the war effort, now it is its duty to help the peace effort. By filling and sending Red Cross boxes the group has brought a little cheer to children in war-torn countries. These boxes, filled with many small but impor- tant articles such as soap and toothpaste, are sent from the United States to the American Red Cross in Europe which dis- tributes them there. 17111111 I'U'Zx'.' There are also needy in Cleveland, so at Christmas time the Red Cross is busy pack- ing baskets of food so that these people will have more to eat at least at the holiday season. The Red Cross makes surveys and prepares lists so that the various groups know to what families to send their bas- kets. 141 Band Practices Many Hours Every fall the band opens its successful year with its playing and marching formations for the football games. One of the highspots this year was the Shaker game at which the band members marched With lights on their hats. The Marching Band closed its season with its annual military ball, at which members of our band and band members from other schools against which We have played, Waltzed happily together. In their nineteenth season the Band reached a high peak of suc- cess in its concert, When it offered a great variety of numbers rang- ing from Jerome Kern's The Song Is Youv to The Barber of Seville by Rossini. A second Mr. Gerkowski, Alan Podis, did a fine job in leading the young musicians. On December 13, twenty members of the band were sent to Band Clinic at Canal Fulton Where along With other Ohio Band members they received instruction in playing under and receiving criticism from several directors. As usual the band entered a number of excellent soloists in the Greater Cleveland Soloist Contest. They also joined in the Band Contest competition held with other Cleveland schools. The big moment on the calendar this year for the band was their tour during spring vacation to Washington, D. C., Where they played on the steps of the Capitol. The Ohio State Band came to Heights High on February 27th to give a concert, in order to help raise money for the trip. The Heights Band is appreciated at home as well as away. 142 FLUTES Bonnie Lake Robert Zaas Harry Ritchie Barbara Budde Carol Colbert Grace Dery Bob Koslen Gail Eaton Jim Faile Ellis Lowe Betsy Bricker Alice Hanawalt Bob Hauver BARITONES Mike Captain Milfred Silverberg Allen Wollinsky' Eb TUBAS Bill Wagnei' John Klein Bill Jones BBb TUBAS Ted Rautenberg Ray Treichel Abba Terr Bob Schultz TIMPANI Bob Mook XYLOPHON E Joan MacKinnon o Achieve National Paine PICCOLOS Bonnie Lake Robert Zaas OBOES Phyllis Shapiro Dorothy Dery Idele Mendelson Richard Katzman Bb CLARINETS Alan Podis John D'Alessandro Charles Perelman Kenneth Gerson Virginia Jennings Herbert Rice Phyllis Mills Edwin Singer Carrol Zulauf Bob Dragin Jean Halberg Sandy Pessel Larry Coben Don Colflesh Maxine Karl Michael Shore Ralph Newman Russel Smith Vera Caldwell Don Kurlander Jean Kalina Celia Moslo Barbara Cummings Richard Fox Myron Baker Connie Kasimov TRUMPETS Jim Coldrich Karl Bechberger Jack Schultz Kurt Miller Dick Phillips Dennis Mitchell Tom Rogers Alan Krichman Henry Crowell Paul Radice jack Cronquist Howard Kline FRENCH HORNS Helene Sykes Ruth Steinhilber Chris Sheeler Don Shanks Bill Higgins Lloyd Fingerhut Marilyn Bierschwal Eric Cornell TROMBONES Daniel Sable Glenn Anderson Arthur Barnes Jack Duggan Ray Leuenberger Al Schiff Bill Howard Homer Wolfe Stuart Myers Dave Baiery Stan Weingart 143 ALTO CLARINET Ted Eickhoff BASS CLARINET Dick Clark Herbert Weintrgitib BASSOONS Edith Silver Louise Doty Donna Gressel Bob Studley ALTO SAXOPHONES Bill Magid Clayton Zeidler Bill Stark Roland Nevins TENOR SAXOPHONES Jimmy Yasinow Ernest Nesi STRING BASS Arthur Sokol CORNETS Charles Ohman Peter Hofman Neil Fisher Lee Betts Dave Earnest ' Jim Hilton Bruce Johnson Dave Rossin Elaine Haak Paul Mallory Bill Ganger Reginald Ullman NIARINIBA Dorothy Klein HARP Eudora Ebert PERCUSSION Robert Katz Don Bordon Lee Stacel Phillip Cohen Ruth Gannon STUDENT CONDUCTORS Alan Podis Mike Captain james Goldrich DRUM MAJORS Daniel Sable Don Shanks Ed Singer LIBRARIANS Herb Rice Dorothy Klein Vera Caldwell Clayton Zeidler UNIFORMS Barbara Budde joan MacKinnon Ruth Steinhilber jean Halberg Lee Betts Bill Higgins QUARTERMASTERS Ted Eickhoff Bill Stark rchestra Presents Serious Make Mine Music say the two hundred students who are en- rolled in the various activities of the Instrumental Music Depart- ment. In the semi-annual Band and Orchestra concert in the fall the Orchestra presented an outstanding program. Jimmy Goldrich offered a trumpet solo, and the entire Orchestra joined in playing Night on Bald Mountainf, One of the important duties of the Orchestra is the part they contribute to the commencement program. The january and June graduates marched to the strains of Pomp and Circumstanceu which the Orchestra so beautifully played for them. Mr. Gerkowski holds rehearsals of the Orchestra in sections. Weekly each member of every section plays a part of a selection. The excellence with which each member plays determines his rank in his section. This year Mr. Gerkowski worked hard to enlarge the Orchestra because next year it will go on tour and will enter the Orchestra Contest. This season they entered the Greater Cleveland Soloist Contest. Not only has Heights had an opportunity to hear our Orchestra, but an even larger audience has been acquired. Every Tuesday afternoon over WSRS Heights families have listened to string trios and quartets, trumpet trios, and soloists of our Orchestra. Along with their Work the Orchestra has an extensive social pro- gram. They held a sledding party at Cain Park after which re- freshments Were served at the home of Isabel Terr. In March a joint Band-Orchestra hobo party was held. Both these affairs offered fun and enjoyment to all attending members. C H 0 1 Q An organization at Heights of which all students can be proud, is the A Cappella Choir. Distinguished not only as one of the finest in the state, the choir is renowned also throughout the country. This year marked the eighteenth season of the choir and brought the events of singing at Halle,s, at the Shaker Country Club and the Community Fund Broadcast over WTAM. The other outstanding activities on the choir agenda were the annual Christmas Concert and the trip in May. All work and no play would make things dull, and so the choir members keep busy planning and participating in their social events. Cn the calendar this year were snow parties, spring picnics, and numerous house parties. The Choir-Band Halloween and spring parties at Fowlerls Mill proved the good relationship which exists between these two musical groups. Much credit must also be attributed to the Choir Mothers, Club, which has assisted the choir in every way possible. Their annual Bridge Party proved a success again this year. The KC'j'lIOfl' is another product of the choir members. This news- paper is distributed to more than five hundred alumni as well as choir members. Contributing to the success of our choir is the spirit of friendliness and cooperation which prevails among all the members. PARENTS AT HEIGHTS Heights parents take an active interest in our school. Parents reminisced upon their own school days as they observed the chimes sounding the beginning and end of the periods when they came to Heights on November 3rd for Open House. Some who had been at Heights be- fore for such events as the Friendship Club's Mothers, Day Tea or the Girls, Cab- inet Mother-Daughter Tea probably acted as lofty seniors to the mothers of lowly 148 CI's. Through their bi-monthly meetings here, Heights Players' mothers are already Heights veterans. There was much ado when the band and orchestra gave a dinner for their parents. The problems of teen- agers which confront Mom and Dad Were discussed on February 2nd in a P. T. A. panel discussion in which parents par- ticipated. This year students Weren't the only ones who came to school. 15111111 1'07c': Moss. Gruber. Wodicka, Kutasli, lloliu. Neides. Nr. Price. .S'i'i'm1ff mtv: Schor, T21X'lGl'I1iL'l'. Sulc. Perry, Orkin. Under the supervision of Mr. Price, the girls usher at such programs as band and STAGE Handling an eighteen hundred seat auditorium presents many problems, none of which are too much for the Heights Stage Crew. Under the capable super- vision of Mr. Gerard Gentile, faculty ad- visor, the crew designs and constructs the various settings used in assemblies and other school productions. The Heights Players also have the Stage Crew to thank for the beautiful scenery provided for their nu- merous productions. Besides their aid in the regular assembly programs, this ener- getic group also is in charge of the noon movies. This year the Stage Crew have been gladdened by the long awaited house dimmers, requisitioned before the war. The addition of these to the auditorium has helped give our assemblies a professional touch. choir concerts and school plays. The kids haven,t disappointed us this year eitherg in fact they have come up with more new ideas than usual. The girls have produced large hair rib- bons tied in huge bows with the streamers dangling down their backs. Very long, swirling ballerina skirts seem to be the most popular and are in all colors and lengths. If you see the rims of eye glasses in plaids or various pastel colors, don't be surprisedg itis just another fad. Coats with hoods and scarfs which are in shaded colors are favorites too.
