C. e 1981 Bridge Asks THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowthg Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wearg Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the diH'erence. Robert Frost 0 . . Our question on the title page, Where Are You Going? is asked of those of us who are either unsure ofour life's plan or who need to reevaluate the road they are presently traveling. Cleveland Tech, too, is going places: the route that our college has been traveling lor the past lif- l ii' Q. D teen years is one of dedicated ser- vice to ClCYClill1fl founty and sur- rounding areas. The excellence of our programs has also attracted students from several foreign countries. According to schedule. the shop area ol' our building program was ready for service in the tall quar- ter ol' 1980: in the spring ol' 1981, our library. classrooms and of- fices are due for completion. ll'hile physical facilities do not in themselves insure quality educa- tion. they do help create an ati mosphere wherein well-qualified. concyned instructors can help direct the ambitions of a growing student community. For these ex- cellent tacilities we are thankful to the citizens ol' Cleveland fonnty who on June 7. 1977, ap-' proved a live million dollar bond' . On that day Cleveland County voters ap- proved a live million dollar bond referendum which provided for the two most recent phases of our long range development plans. Phase one, our two existing classroom buildings and shop areas, was com- pleted in 1974. By fall quarter of 1980 the shop area portion of phase two was completed and classes moved ing and by spring of 1981 the library, classrooms, otltices, cafeteria and all the rest of phase two is to be completed. The remaining buildings of our past which now house the library, faculty oiiices, administra- tion otlices, snack shop and the classrooms in the barn will be torn down making way for landscaping and parking. The photos on these and following pages show these new facilities being made ready for ap- preciative citizens of Cleveland Technical College. l 36 Getting Ready 1 - - , Al - - - , , A A-, , ,,,Q,,g,A, ,A ',,4,,,,,i,,,.,-. ...,.QQ.L..,.1.LLi':'fi-4-.Y',lJx?L.-.ESLLQQJQ5 Y U 1 x ,f l 1 F li if 1 v B ? CLEVELAND COUNTY TECHNICAL INSTITUTE CTC's quarterly publication, The Tiger Paw, is designed to bridge communication gaps by means of announcements, feature stories, and other campus activities. Dining this academic year, members of The Tiger Paw staff changed the once- monthly publication to a quarterly publication, thus changing the per- sonality of the Paw to a more literary publication. Therefore, the newspaper now contains more poems, short stories, and essays tha.n previously. A companion to the Paw, Paw Prints, is a bimonthly bulletin of current campus events. The Tiger Paw is a result ofthe team work of students in Journalism I and II. Staff members are responsi- ble for interviewing, writing, editing as well as the pictorial design and layout of The Tiger Paw. s Gur Artist-in-Residence Mr Paul Dav1s IS servlng h1s second year as Cleveland Tech s v1s1t1ng ar tlst. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 to be asked to join and maintain a 3.2 average. On campus Gamma Beta Phi per- forms such services as offering a S100 scholarship per quarter to a worthy student, helping with peer tutoring, maintaining an inforrna- tion booth on registration day and serving as graduation marshals. Community, state and national ac- tivities are also a big part of Gamma Beta Phi. Bloodxnobiles, teacher appreciation day, needy family aid at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and participation in state and national conventions are just a few of these activities. We are also proud of Tech's responsibility for our North Carolina newsletter. And, of co1u'se, there are activities to benefit the club itself such as money raising projects, parties and quarterly meetings. This year money raising projects have included bake sales, attic sales, candy sales and a gas- oline give away. Through these and other activities Gamma Beta Phi members exemplify the ideals of scholarship, character and service. Oiiicers are Bobby Phillips, presi- dent, Sue Elliott, secretaryg Donna Huskey, treasurer, Lisa Yarboro, reporter, and Kay Dyer, historian. Advisors are Buck Walker and Bar- bara Taylor. 1 I WWW I i I I I I I I I I I I I .....- -Mi-, .15 Ll' I r I I I I I I I I I .S I I I I I I I I I 72 +1 I I j I 1 I. The c1ub's president is Mot Carpenter. Justice Club The Slightly if-Center Stage The drama club at CTC, who call themselves the Slightly OH-Center Stage Players, is open to all stu- dents currently taking drama as well as others interested in the perform- ing arts. Acting is approached as an evolutionary process of develop- ment through the study of mime, movement, creation of varied characters, and acting techniques. With the new Intimate Theater at CTC attention will focus on lighting effects and backstage techniques to enhance on-stage presentations. At least one performance is given each quarter, frequently programs are presented for the prison, schools, and special groups. Students use their creative talents to perform original works, improvisation, and scripts, both comic and tragic. Usually a series of short plays form- ing a collage of music, poetry, and drama provides the atmosphere for productive, creative performance by the players. xx-.4 UIQ' 1.0 Gd' hh..-'ull lui Players '-'w I I I I I I J I I I I I I I I t S5 880 fffttsseffffv 4 ' Events 19 0-19 1 Developments And Any given period of time includes significant events and developments that are unique. One such event that will cause 1981 to stand out in our memory is the release of the American hostages in Iran which occurred in the last minutes of President Carter's administration. After fourteen months of captivity, the hostages are being welcomed by a relieved nation in a manner far more enthusiastic than that given returning prisoners of war. cl uns Sllll ll Small cars both foreign and domestic became more in demand as gasoline prices continued to rise, and the popularity of western-style clothing could have been a result of movies such as Urban Cowboy and The Electric Horseman. 1981 willbe an important year for Cleveland Tech citizens who are looking foreward to moving into new facilities. 858550 'W' 9 Koa?-fit 4 Je w 'M go we I I I I 4 It V c INEM A 7 i 5, 9439? vmxnaf GE QW.
