History Among the twenty-nine graduating Seniors there remain only nine of the scared little young'ins that first appeared here in the fall of 1944. The first moming Sandra Anderson, Lettie Beals, Marquerite Boyd, Pat Dees, Eleen Kimball, Tanya Hutsell. Jimmy Carroll, Lynn Crews, and Gilbert Pierce had the unforgettable experience of meeting Mrs. Ware. Our first year passed quite serenely with only twelve teachers. Our second year started with a bang with the welcome addition of Lynn Brantly, Ruth Cummings, Anna Mary Priebe, and Bob McCown. This year we had only two teachers. Our third year was a succession of bubble gum, marbles, tops, jacks, and-- more teachers. This year Gloria Hough and Bill Aslunore joined our ranks, Fourth and fifth grades went along quite quietly except for the additions of Roger Godwin and Jean Harden. Remember the weekly spelling bees with Anna Mary always Champion, the daily penmanship lessons, the morning specials, and Friday afternoon radio programs? These were what Royce Wells and Hazel Smith found when they joined us in the sixth grade. Oh! at last we made it--Junior High--weren't we the wheels though. James Graves arrived our eighth year to add greatly to the general confusion. With the beginning of our Freshman year, we first began to realize that we might get out someday. This year Nancy Smith, Julia Faye Rogers, Golan Helmuth, and Leonard Pennington enlarged our ranks. We were thrilled to have two of our number in the Cheering team, and several basketball players. As Sophomores we set a record for magazine sales that still stands. Shirley Simmons, Margaret Mitchell, Julia Welsh, and Tanya Hutsell, who returned from several years in Nebraska, contributed much to this success. Our Junior year was taken up with presenting the smash hit-- Cheaper By The Dozen, planning a prom of Moonlight and Roses, getting our beautiful class rings, and doing as little work as possible. At last we are Seniors--It has been a long road producing the Senior Play, Old Doc that was a roaring success, ordering calling cards, announcements, and caps and gowns. These all drive home the fact that it won't be long now. Mary Lou Rorabaugh and Albert Haines arrived this year to swell the class of '56 to twenty-nine. We are proud of our class and as we scatter after graduation, we shall have many memories, good and bad, to take with us and use in the years to come.
