Future Farmers of America ' r a l ' Left to Righty Back Row Gary Hyde, Harold Hanson, Harley Evenson, Lyle led berry, William Bennett, Crayton Ash Third Row Fremont Ogle, Roger Howard Louis Becker, William Aoyle, dr James, David Helgerson Ronald Lyngaas Bert Henderson, Paul Hanson Second Row David Christen, obert Nelson Honald Halverson, Rowland Hackmann, Lyle ieisner, La Verne Swenson Seated, Charles angle, Jean Amundson, Barbara Thies,Barbara Anderson, Mary Kay Swenson,Kenneth Us Officers President ,La Verne Swenson Vice President Rowland Hackmann Secretar . ,Ronald Lqngaas Treasurer .. . ....Robert Swenson Reporter. ... .Bert Henderson Sentinel . ...Louis Becker Sponsor dr James Activities of the Honor Society, Student Council, and F F,A, during the 1956 57 school year The activities of the organizations pictured on the preceeding pages were many and varied this year The Honor Society initiated seven new members during the schoolyear o parties were held: a Christmas party for present members and alumnig an a theater party with the faculty as guests at the film Anastasia ' The Honor Society and Student Council sponsored the hristmas party for the High School, and held a joint nd of the year picnic together The Student Council members attended the State Convention at Cedar Falls and presented a panel discussion on 'How best to secure the co-operation of the student body ' Members also took turns leading the Pledge of Allegiance on Tuesday mornings and sponsored games and folk dancing for the students during noons. Starting the students toward forming a more satisfactory philosophy for school life was another worth while project of the Student Council. This pro- ject was tangibly expressed in having each student write a creed of his own for use in the new Valley High School. Another of the Student Counc1l's assum- bly programs impressed upon the students the necessity of eating a good breakfast. Students who were members of the F.F,A. group took a trip to the Eastern Iowa Breeder's Association meeting in December, and also went to the State F.F.A. Convention. Honorary Chapter Farmer degrees were conferred on Guy Williams and Bernard Hansong lary Kay Swenson was chosen Chapter Sweetheart. Another of the F,F.A.'s projects was the purchasing of a pair of portable scales on which to weigh livestock and other projects. 41

Jr Sr Banquet And Prom 4- 1 4'i.f i 4-nhl 4 Q rf I Kr fu x On Saturday evening, April 27, the Senior Class members were the guests of the Junior Class at a Banquet served in the Lutheran Church parlors theme of the banquet was 'Fantasy Land The walls and ceilings were festconed with gaily colored streamers,murals of fairies and gncmcs decorated the walls At the entrance to the banquet room was a ragic wlshing well which dispensed excellent punch in addition to granting wishes The menu included such exotic delicacies as Fvening Snow with Fmeralds, Crescent Icon and Star Dust, and Woodland Mist and Dew Quaintly costumed dwarfs served the meal The program was presided over by the King of Fantasy Bert Henderson and featured a fairy queen, Junior Class President Helen Jo Burget, a nixie Senior Class President Arlene Knudseng a look into the future by gremlin Dean Schneider, and a group of woodland fairies who sang, 'My Garden Is a Lovely Place W Following the Banquet, a Pron,sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, was held in the High School Gym The Senior Class used the theme of last year's Banquet Rhapsody In Blue in decorating for the occasion The ceiling was made of blue streamers suspended from the uoperrost of three concentric hoops hung above the center of the Gym These hoops, of progressively decreasing circumferences, su ported a cluster of ballons of various sizes Blue spgt lights in the Pym and over the en ry way contributed to the gala effect Murals with staffs, clefs, and notes decorated the walls For the area beneath the stage a pretty,fluffy effect was obtaired with paper napkins, chicken ne tfng, and a great deal of patience msic for .he festivlty was furnished by the Postvllle Swing Band yin 42 g , wir.. 4 3: ' ,.,' f,., ,uw .Q Y - .V Q' W 4-It E' 1kt t l md ,.... -' ' 'ff l l --' A - x 1 'mafia ob o Y' ' x. 1, l 4 2' Q .':l'Q.i 6 ,Ne ' ' : W M -1 If 'I L fl Q ' 3 5 QI O '7 I 8 - , xi Y' ' , 3 . ,r a vm 5 Qtr I h se' I' ' 3 e n I V , X K..
