THE PRESIDENT Composed and serene as his name would indicate, Dr. R. F. Poole, our president, stands amongst us as steadfastly as Clemson itself. For the past nine years his dextrous hand has adroitly directed Clemson in its rise to prominence. It is he who greets the incoming freshman with a welcome handshake, and who launches graduates into the world. It is he to whom students turn for action on their age-old complaints. No one can contest his fitness for the position, for as a Clemson graduate, Dr. Poole learned the problems of the students; returning as president, his intimate acquaintance with these problems enable him to cope with them expertly. Without infinite patience, tact, and the desire to contribute to humanity, Dr. Poole would have succumbed long ago to the burden of his post. All eyes focus upon him as he balances the delicate scales between student and administration. The responsibility of correct decision and ensuing action is his, along with any other uncertain honors that might accompany it. Only meager acknowledgment can we offer to this individual of distinguished merit. May his gentle rule extend far beyond our transient period at Clemson. A front shot of our front man; who else but jovial President Poole, the most photographed man on the campus. Dr. D. W. Daniel, Governor Strom Thurmond, and President R. F. Poole President and Mrs. Poole in a familiar stance, shaking hands, withdraw to a secluded corner for a three sided conference. Dr. Daniel but with the Honorary Cadet Colonel, Miss Betty Byrd of starts the ball rolling, but how long can he keep the floor? Kingstree, South Carolina. Get in that line boys! 15

TILLMAN HALL, known as the Main Building, is the center of all activities. From beginning to end we pay homage to this mecca. Behind its walls such offices as the President ' s, Commandant ' s and Treasurer ' s are entrenched. The Chapel, located in the right wing, also functions as theater and auditorium. The basement harbors The Tiger, our weekly newspaper. 14

Keeping tab on thousands of students is a never ending task. STUDENT ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR Mr. G. H. Hill, director of students ' activities, lends a helping hand to the school publications and such in his dual role as assistant business manager.
