i With the Mortar Every Cadet Drills There is an estimated total of 3,000 Clemson men in the armed forces today, the major part of them ranked as second lieutenants or higher. This year, come June, we shall graduate 350 more well- trained second lieutenants to the infantry. Many more men have already joined or will join the other services. The photos on these two pages will give a general picture of the military activities on the campus. Here we see how the cadets learn the rudiments of close and extended order drill and the more technical problems of operating and repairing machine guns, mortars, rifles, etc. Our periods of theory cover every phase of military science from mess management to actual combat tactics. All instruction is under the direct supervision of experienced army officers. Learning About the Machine Gun The Manual of Arms For the Underclassmen

» M 7(rlcuwtd. It is impossible that a complete narrative and pictorial review of a Clemson scholastic year be repre- sented within the narrow confines of a yearbook ' s cover. It is only possible that we hit the high spots of the term and highlight those things that spell to the average student, CLEMSON . This we hope we ' ve accomplish ed in the publication of this thirty-sixth edi- tion of TAPS . Faculty, alumni, and especially students, let this be your record of the college year, your personal album of photos and fond memo- ries of happy days at Clemson. We hope our efforts represented herein merit your approval. You are the judge; if your critique is favorable, TAPS 1943 is a successful annual. — The editors. I JI 111 III I. i
