CLEMSON COLLEGE AGRICULTURAL, MECHANICAL, TEXTILE, Clem©on College, - S. C COURSE OF STUDY. The various courses of study are fully explained in the larger cata- logues. Diplomas will not be issued to those who take irregular courses. In the Agricultural Department there are courses and equipments for pure Agriculture, Horticulture, Botany, Dairying, Entomology and Veterinary Science. In the Chemical Department instruction is given in Chemistry, Geology and Mineralogy. In the Mechanical Department the courses are : Applied Mechanics, Physics, Drawing, Forge and Foundry Work, Machine Shop, Elec- tricity, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. In the Textile Department the students take the regular mechani- cal work to Junior Class. In the Junior and Senior classes instruc- tion is given in Designing, Textile Engineering, Dyeing, etc. The other Departments are : Mathematics, Civil Engineering, English History and Military Science. EXPENSES. The deposit required from each student on admission is $59.18, ex- cept in the case of students who receive tuition free, when it is $49.18. Free tuition is given only to residents of the State. Blank applica- tions for free tuition will be sent when applied for. After the first deposit a quarterly deposit of $26.88 for pay-tuition students, and $16.88 for free tuition students is required at the beginning of each quarter. The quarters begin as follows : Sept. 13, 1899, Nov. 21, 1899, Jan. 29, 1900, and April 6, 1900. This gives a total of $139.80 per year for students paying tuition, and $99.80 per year for students who receive tuition free. These deposits pay for board, tuition, laundry fee, incidental fee, medical fee, and one uniform. Books, and other necessary articles not mentioned, will be furnished at cost. Each student is required to bring four sheets, two blankets, one comfort, six towels, two pillow-cases and one pillow. Students received at any time. For further information, address, HENRY S. Graduates of the Normal Course will be granted, in addition to the degree, A Life License to teach in the Public Schools of the State. Shorter Normal Courses are offered leading to certificate (Life License to Teach), and to the degree of L. I. SPECIAL COURSES : Stenography and Typewriting; Dress- making; Book-keeping. Either of these courses may be completed in one year, and is rewarded by a certificate of proficiency. Thorough instruction given in Cooking, Horticulture, Floricul- ture, Dairying, Free Hand and Industrial Drawing, Reading and Physical Culture. Arrangements have been made to teach Kinder- gartens next session, and a Summer School for Teachers is to be regularly conducted at the College. MUSIC : In this department instruction is given in Piano, Organ, Voice-Culture, Sight Singing, Chorus Singing and Violin. SCHOLARSHIP : Each county is given as many scholarships as it has members in the House of Representatives. A scholarship is worth $44 and free tuition, and must be won by competitive exami- nation.
