In the primary school we linger And think what imps we ' ve been And wonder why we were so dear— To those patient teachers then. We ' ll wonder if the kids still sing The simple songs we did. We ' ll wonder if they ' ll ever find The places where we hid. Cur thoughts will go back to the dirtpile. The swings, the marbles, and the slingshot, And wonder how we lived through That bloody nose we got! Then our thoughts will amble on To those books of Tom and Muff, To the girls in frilly dresses And the boys who were so tough. In games we competed with the older kids. But, of course, they always won. So we decided to just be brats And have a little fun! The girls no longer wore pigtails, Or skirts above their knees. The boys abandoned their knickers And the girls soon learned to tease. Then before we realized That cherished moment was there When we became high-school freshmen With new pledges, dreams, and cares. Ch just think of the fun we had At those half-grown up parties. And don ' t forget the games we played Ch weren ' t we little smartiesl! I Next we progressed to the tenth grade Boy, we were the stuff- But when the curfew hour began to toll We still hurried home in a huff. The next year we were juniors And, indeed, we were proud of this. Slowly some tranquil change took place And our hearts would often reminisce. We became more independent We began to look ahead We realized the importance of each moment And, oh, how those moments fled. And now we ' re full-fledged seniors, We ' ve travelled quite a long way From little kids who ran and played To this somber, yet joyous day. We ' re still really quite youthful We have our future in store And longingly as the years go by We ' ll look back more and more. And Clemmons School we ' ll ever praise For twelve years of happy, useful days. SHIRLEY HOLTON CLASS SONG MOMENTS TO REMEMBER To Clemmons High we bid farewell Cur departure brings the tears that tell We will have these moments to r emember. And when we ' ve gone our separate way We ' ll think of you both night and day These will be sweet moments to remember MMKMBMMMMMNMHMMM And ore the years we ' ll reminisce Of the faculty with tenderness €J ' .. I . Oh, twill be sue h moments to remember mm. 1 I £.f? i —i-j- and the present c lisappears The memories of Clemmons High will echo through the years. HdHElMi . We realize as time grows nigh We ' ll remember Clemmons with a sigh and all its moments to remember. DIANE BINGHAM JEANETTE LINEBACK CLASS PROPHECY It ' s a sweltering hot day in July 1966, the place, the fabulous Tanglewood Resort. The class of 1956 are gathering for their first reunion. As the guests begin arriving, we see the manager, Parke Davis, hurrying forward to greet and help settle everyone. One of the bellboys, Bill Harless, in a jaunty red cap, rushes to get the luggage of Rebecca Pick¬ ett and Ruth Green, two very successful teachers at the Clemmons Academy. A flashy convertible comes swerving down the drive and out bounds Jim Higgins, a famed lawyer from New York. Wait, that face looks very familiar, why it ' s none other than witty Emily Sparks. Emily is now one of the best bus drivers the Greyhound Bus, Inc., has ever had. Wandering through the beautiful gardens, we find Jack Jones working diligently at a new picture. He is the famous Jacque Jones, internationally-known artist. Betty Angel and Ann Phelps join us dressed very elegantly in their own department store ' s products. Over by the spacious hotel ' s garage, we hear George Wilson and Tom McClamrock pointing out the amazing features of their newly created WIL-ROCK car. The would-be buyer is the celebrated songstress, Carolyn Bodsford. She is one of the Juke Box favorites, recording on the CHS label. Down near the golf course, a game of pitch is in session. Tossing some neat curves, and fast baseballs are Jim Font and Tommy Mahannah, two professional players for the Dodgers. Gn the sidelines is one of their faithful fans, Barbara Craver, now a famous clarinet player with the Clemmons Symphony Grchestra. Refusing to admit defeat from the world ' s champion golf player is Sam Marshall, the dynamic Sen¬ ator. The champion, Elizabeth Bodford, is off to London tomorrow to defend her title. Strolling by the glamorously-shaped swimming pool, we can see several of our alumnae enjoying the sun and water. Now the chief lifeguard, Margaret Cornwell, sits dozing in the sunshine. The ever popular disc jockey Thomas Tate appears to be deep in conversation with Gerald Sheets, the new horse¬ back riding instructor at this magnificent resort. Back in the cool stylish dining room, having a delightful lunch, we see other of our classmates. Shirley Holton, who is proprietress of the Tanglewood Luncheon Club, looks languishly over her guests for the evening. The house detective, looking very reserved enters, who else but James Hutchins. An¬ other of the employees, Jeanette Lineback comes in looking very attractive in her nurse ' s uniform. Straight from Wall Street we see Roger Powell, the widely-known broker entering. With him is Jackie Smothers, now the secretary at Clemmons Academy. Looking very dignified is Doctor Jack Reed. We understand his practi ce is really thriving these days. A couple of celebrities appear, these being Grace Myers, the great novelist, now working on a new idea, and Joe Cumby, the newest bobbysox rage from Hollywood. Seated at a nearby table we hear Dianne Bingham and Jesse Parks discussing their prosperous part¬ nership in the Clemmons Lumber Mills, Inc. Joining us now is Gaye Brewer, dressed exclusively in Paris originals, and who by the way is living in France working as a French translator. Kenneth Harp strolls in. He is proud owner and operator of a local dancing school. Covering this gala event for the Clemmons Daily News is Ann Carol Ellis. Here comes a late comer, Richard Canter, who was recently voted father of the year. Each member of the class of ' 56 has come quite a long way in these ten years. Tomorrow each will go back to their different positions in the world, with best wishes for success and happiness for each other. In another ten years the class will meet again. We hope the place will be as beautiful and lux¬ urious as this Tanglewood Resort. ANN CAROL ELLIS Class Prophetess CLASS HISTORY In 1944, a new group of well-scrubbed little boys and girls entered the huge brick building called Clemmons School. Cur first teachers were Mrs. Nona Watkins and Miss Mock. Some of the first to enter were Diane Bingham, Ruby Hogue, and Grace Myers, priding them¬ selves with their long curls. Ready for a good fight were Lee Brandon, Billy Heath, Jimmy Doby, and Bill Hauser. Carolyn Lowder, Carolyn Bodsford, and Jeanette Lineback, finding the whole affair very sad, were busy crying on each other ' s shoulders. George Wilson, Roger Powell, Norman Foster, and Joe Cumby could be seen teasing and hold¬ ing hands with the girls. Seen getting off to a good start with the teachers by bringing them an apple were Tommy Shutt, and Rebecca Pickett. Ann Carol Ellis and Joyce Payne looked very neat in their pig tails tied with big brightly- colored ribbons. Ready with pencils and paper to get an education were Ruth Green, Shirley Holfon, Earl Butler, and Bobby Al len. Refusing to give up their toys were Myrtle Morris, Libby Hunter, Jerry Webster, and Harold Stewart. In the back of the room Bing Davis, Tommy McClamrock and Frank Blake were busy shooting spit-wads. Hiding behind their mother ' s skirts were Margaret Cornwell, Lillie Belle Keaton, Jackie Smothers, and Donald Mendenhall. Caro! Hayes was seen having fun playing pranks on everyone. Barbara Ann Canter and Patsy Tilley could be seen sitting in a corner nursing their thumbs. David Canter, Ralph Griffith and Gene Isom had a good game of marbles going in the cloak room. Bill Smith and Tommy Mahannah entered, each carrying a miniature football. Finding very much to giggle about were Betty Gann, Barbara Craver, and Gaye Brewer. Just sitting and observing with interest all the activity were Allen Wrights, Hobert Hutchens, and Ralph Spaugh. Wanda Willey and Jo Ann Edwards appeared to be very absorbed in a big picture book. Joanna Simmons and Betty Rae Teague could be seen tossing their curls and winking at all the boys. Getting into quite a mess from some red modeling clay were Gerald Sheets, William Binkley, Johnny Long worth, and James Martin. Elizabeth Bodsford and Betty Whisenhunt entered very shyly and took a front seat. James Nelson and Richard Cox tried to catch the pretty gold fish while Iris Woosley and Jim Higgins watched very attentively. Leaving us at the end of the first grade were David Canter, Earl Butler, Joyce Payne, Bill Hauser, Gene Isom, Jimmy Doby, Carolyn Lowder, Ralph Spaugh, Betty Rae Teague, Betty Whisen¬ hunt and Wanda Stilley. Joining us in the second grade were Gerald Zean Brown, Janie Ellis and Wilbur Foster. Our teachers were Mrs. Nona Watkins and Mrs. Bynum Davis. At the end of this year we lost Wilbur Foster, Hobert Hutchens, Billy Heath, James Nelson, Myrtle Morris, Jerry Webster and Bill Smith. In the beginning of the third grade we gained several students in our ranks, Billy Boles, Darrell Craft, Franklin Britt, Bobby Meilstrup, Evelyn Ellis, Bobby Parrish, Claude Phillips, Robert Fry, Ed Gregory, Billy Stevens, Barbara Phillips, and Raymond Bullard.
