As we slept, we dreamed that we came upon a white rabbit with pink eyes. This didn’t seem so un¬ usual, but when he took a watch from his waistcoat pocket, we be¬ came curious and decided to follow him. After trailing him for several minutes we suddenly found ourselves in a huge dimly lighted rabbit hole. Imagine our surprise when we saw standing right in frout of us, Alice in Wonderland.” Seeing that our hostess was in a pleasant mood, we introduced ourselves and apologized for our intrusion. Alice greeted us cheerfully and to our great delight, invited us to visit Wonderland with her. Soon we were on our way and had not gone very far, when we came upon a pretty little white house, surrounded by a picket fence. From the back of the house came the sound of a lawn mower and as we looked in that direction who should we see mowing the lawn but Carl Davis, while his beloved cocker spaniel watched from the kitchen window. Our journey took us down the street by a newstand where we purchased a copy of Reed’s Wonderland Special;” by the way, Raymond Reed is editor of this paper, and Peggy Phelps is society editor. Turning to the sport page, what should we find there, but a large picture of Hub Doty, who had now made All-American on the professional Midgets Basketball team. Bobby Cheek’s name stood out in big bold letters for having been elected the most valuable professional football player of the year. As we were crossing the street, we bumped into a young man who proved to be Leon Chappel, with a beautiful blond hanging on his arm, who was none other than Marilyn Woosley. Marilyn is now engaged in the Modeling profession, Leon is designing the latest fashions in women’s beachwear. Continuing our journey through Wonderland we learned many interesting things concerning the class of ’51. Wilburn Crater is now owner and manager of the world’s largest Tinker Toy Factory.” Margaret Charles is doing all right for herself too; she is Wilburn’s private secretary. Say, have you heard the latest in the television world? Ray Phillips is supervisor of the W.C.H.S. Television station in Clemmons. Joyce Smith has also made a big hit in the television world. She is now starring on the Cactus Jim’s Story Telling Hour. One evening we visited the Bucket of Blood,” a nightclub for an hour or two of fun, and whom should we find proprietor of the place—none other than our very own Max Satterfield. He had the world’s top jazz band, which was under the direction of Larry Hart and Lorenza Clinard. Colleen Maynard and Patty Thomas were really doing a swell job on the vocals. We were also very proud of Dorothy Bryant Bodenheimer, who played the piano. We shall always keep a place in the corner of our memory chest for that very wonderful evening of fun. We met others of our class who have gone in for a more serious profession. Nancy Ann Boner and Nancy Lowder are now graduate nurses. I’m sure you won’t mind being sick now with such splendid nurses to wait on you. Nanette Creasy and Maureen Holton have just gotten back from their vacation to the moon. They said they found the trip very comfortable and very enjoyable in their new rocket ship, which was designed by Maureen and piloted by Nanette. Charles Flora is now an undertaker. Charles made a wise decision when he chose this profession, for this is one business that never runs out of customers. when we stopped in the park to pick some daisies for a daisy chain. While we were in Wonderland, we had a day of fun at the Clemmonsville speedway. We were very much surprised to find Marie Vaught and Cletus Shelton driving cars de¬ signed by Norman Bullard. Both drivers were really giving Sara Christen and Bill Holland a chase for the national championship. Betty Heath Byerly is now secretary of the Byerly Motor Company of Clemmons. As we were taking a ride through the country, we came across a huge chicken farm. And who were the owners and operators, why those two agriculture boys Frank Ellis and Kenneth Porter. Nancy Craver Southern is now owner of the Kinky Training School for beauticians. Bill Brewer and Teddy Lowe have just obtained a degree in hair designing. Walter Craver is now a famous explorer. The last we heard of him, he was looking for buried treasure along the banks of Muddy Creek. Sara Phelps and Billie Sue Cumby have gone in for golf in a big way. They are now instructors at the famed Jonestown Golf Course. Maxine Harper Vogler is now engaged in drawing signs for the advertising depart¬ ment of Verna Ketner’s Hardware Company. By the way, Maxine now has twin boys. One member of our class turned out to be an expert salesman. He is no other than Dallas Cundiff, who goes from door to door selling pickles. Jimmy Furches is a professor at the L.B.S.F.R. University. In case you are wonder¬ ing, those letters stand for Lame Brain School for Rabbits.” Peggy Sue Hogue is his private secretary. They have a new girls’ coach at the Wonderland High School. We were not at all surprised to find that she’s our own Mary Johnson. Jim Craver now owner of the new Pontiac Place in Clemmons, is quite a business man. Juanita Dowell has her name in lights now. She is making a huge success ob Broadway. Don Reid and Johnny Sloan have opened up a large factory in Clemmons, where they manufacture cue-sticks and pool chalk. | Jim Brewer is really going places in the business world. He is president of the largest cigar factory in Clemmons. Betty Wooten Brewer, our splendid annual editor is now editor of Better Dog Houses and Dog Food,” the largest selling magazine in the nation. Hadacol has now been changed to Templetoncol since Thurmond Templeton has taken over. Templetoncol is guaranteed to make muscles like Popeye’s or your money is refunded ten fold. Sue Scott’s name is in the news now. She just swam the English Channel five times in twenty-four hours, three minutes and six seconds. That’s quite a record. Ho-hum, Gee, we’ve been asleep. It was such a wonderful dream, visiting our class¬ mates in wonderland. It was so enchanting seeing the class of ’51 again. This dream will GOODBYE SCHOOLMATES CLEMMONS HIGH Clemmons High, as we depart, Keep a corner of our heart. Save it for a souvenir, Lasting through the coming years. Rich man, poor man, doctor, clerk, Lawyer, mason, soda jerk; These in years will surely come From the class of fifty one. Goodbye, schoolmates; Time has come for us to part. Goodbye, teachers; By you we all had our start. Goodbye, Clemmons; You will always hold our heart. Goodbye, dear friends, goodbye! We will miss you; Hope that you will miss us too. God be with you; May all of your dreams come true. In the future There’ll be many thoughts of you. Goodbye, dear friends, goodbye! We’ve had troubles. But much good will come with bad. When they do come, Lift your chin up; don’t be sad. Now we will you Best of everything we had. Goodbye, dear friends, goodbye! Going, going, going, gone. But our mem’ries linger on. Our class officers were: President, Jim Furches; Vice-President, Bobby Cheek; Secretary, Patty Thomas; Treasurer, Dallas Cundiff; Stu¬ dent Council Representatives, Bobby Cheek and Lorenza Clinard. With spring—and this year it seemed especially bright and beautiful—we, the Sen¬ iors, gave our annual class play. We relaxed from our all-important senior duties to find a night of fun and relaxation at a Gay ’90’s Ball, given in our honor by the Juniors. Now our school days are over, as we leave our little red brick school house, but we will always remember Dear Ole Clemmons High. We didn’t have slates, but we used the blackboard on which to write I love you.” Our teachers didn’t use hickory sticks either, but there was that stern look that told us we must obey the golden rules. And now as we are leaving we say thank you’ to our teachers and principal who have guided us through the years— striving to help us get a good edu¬ cation. G. BASEBALL 1950 The Blues baseball team won their third consecutive State Baseball Championship at Buies Creek May 27 by defeating Angier High School, Eastern division Champions, 5-4 and 5-1. The Blues’ only conference loss during the three year period—a 9-3 loss to Hartsell of Concord in the Western division play-off—marred the 1950 schedule which consisted of 18 victories and a single setback. The Blues of 1950 were the only team in the South to represent its state two years in succession in the Southeastern High School Interscholastic Baseball Tournament, as the Blues represented North Carolina at Johnson City, Tenn., in 1949 and at Tuscaloosa, Ala., in 19 5 0. The Blues bowed out of the 19 50 tourney by losing a heart breaker to Lakeland High School, Fla., 1-0. The Blues garnered nine hits while Darrell Everhart held the Florida Champs to four scattered hits. Graduating with the Class of 1950 were Darrell Everhart, Tommy Brewer, Pcto Morefield, Raymond and Richard Vogler, Donald Craver, Thurman Chappell, Jim Hall and Perry Grant. Those returning in 1951 around whom the nucleus of a new team will be formed are: Jim Furches, Jim Brewer, Jim Stewart, Howard Hickman, Bobby Cheek, and Don Reid. Prospects for a good team in 19 51 seemed bright due to the fact that Coach Moody conducted Fall practice and such potential greats as Jerry Peoples, Lowell Carter, Wilson Wise, Jay Caudle, Tom Miller, Herb Doty, Odell Cheek and others came into prominence.
