That there will be problems goes without saying. How you meet them and with what wisdonyou work out their solution will be the test that will determine your place in the world. In all your efforts to do what will be bestfor you and your country, you have my blessings and best wishes. H. S. Broome 6 Administration Faculty Staff 7 t , f 3 'TT ' X' 2. As our final year at Clement comes to an end, we would like to thank each of the teachers for directing us in the right way through school, and, to our parents, we extend our deepest appreciation for all the help and understanding they have given to us these twelve years. Our journey began in the fall of 1951 when fifty -six y o un g , frightened, inexperienced, sn a 9 gl e -toothed children, not knowing what to expect, entered the doors at the front of this building. At this point Mrs. Avis Jackson and Miss Gladys Turner assumed the task of getting us off on the right foot, and before long, our first year was over. Slowly the years passed, and soon we were in the seventh grade. That year under the direction of Mr. Graham Jackson and Mrs. Marjorie Warren we went on a very educational sightseeing tour to Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. At the end of our eighth year, we were very proud to Class Histor receive certificates of promotion to high school. Ln the fall of 1959 we entered high school and elected as our class officers Larry West, Presidentg Lynn Tew, Vice-Presidentg Dixie F a nn, Secreuaryg and R o e na Faircloth, Treasurer. Our freshman year ended with a party at White Lake. ..,,,, -, During our sophomore year we had the title of Noisy Sophomores. As our class officers we chose: Kyle Hall, President, Elwood Tew, Vice -President, Betty Jo Wrench, Secretary, and Linda Tow, Treamrer. We were proud to have ten members of our class on the ball teamsg also, six classmates were tapped into the Beta Club. Then came our next most important part of school- our junior year. That year under the guidance of Mrs. Bettie Giles and Mr. jack Hill, we did a number of things which we will be proud of in the future yeais. In December we g av e a Christmas party at the Falcon Children's Home and distributed gifts to the children. In March we received our class rings. Soon April was here, and we honored the seniors at one of the best junior -Senior Banquets, we believe, that has been held at the school :-E1 ' in quite a while. Our class officers were Larry McPhail, President, Hoyle Broome, Jr. , Vice -President, Kyle Hall, Secretary, and Treasurer, Mabel Williams. Here it is-our SENIOR year. Our sponsor is Mrs. Sylvia Hall, and as class officers we elected Roy Jackson, Presidentg Charles Stewart, Vice-President, Mabel Dent Williams, Secretary, and jean jackson, Treasurer. Our senior activities have included the selection of invi- tations, caps, gowns, and diplomas for graduation, the publication of the school yearbook, now we are looking forward to that glorious day of GRADUATION. Iv In I1 In In 1. Ir Ir In In KEY WITNESSES Roena Faircloth Faye Grantham DIXIE FANN Testat:-ix 30 Class Prophecy Late on a cool October day of 1975 my old clasmnate LYNN TEW and Iwearily descended the Capitol steps. Congress had finally adjorned. We hailed a cab for the hotel, and can you imagine who was driving-W. E. HONEYCUTT. He explained that he was just checking the car, for now, he was chief mechanic of the D. C. Cab Company. Upon reaching the hotel we were greeted by the chief butler, ELWOOD HONEYCUTT. Working behind the desk was Mrs. Honeycutt, better lmown to us as JEAN JACKSON. After checking out, Lynn and I each went our own way. As I was boarding a jet for home, who was I to run into, but ARCI-IIE BEAL, the latest recording star for Columbia Recording Company. As Archie and I chatted about things, the subject of our old classmates came up. I learned that LARRY McPHAILwas the manager of the largest A 8 P Supermarket in Miami Beach. Also, with A 8 P is GEORGIA WILLIAMS, She is the executive secretary for the Southeastern District. Suddenly the plane lurched violently, immediately two stewardesses-ROENA FAIRCLOTI-I and FAYE GRANTHAM came to calm the passengers. From them I learned that we were in capable hands, for the pilot was none other than Joi-IN CARROLL. As I got off the plane KYLE HALL was waiting to pick me up. Kyle, having achieved his high school ambition, is now a mccessful young lawyer in Raleigh, North Carolina. As he was taking me home we also discussed classmates. I learned that he was employing MABI-LL WILLIAMS and BONNIE FORD as his own private secretaries and that W. C. MARTIN and LARRY CARLISLE were joint partners in a. large ranch in Western Kansas. I was pleased to hearthat ELWOOD TEW and DIXIE FANN were happily married. It seems that Elwood has expanded his once small ham-curing business into a national meat producing organization. The Armed Services had claimed several ofour class members. JUNIOR HORNE and PENN COATS joined the navy shortly after graduation. EARL TYNDALI., the smallest memberof our class, joined the Air Force, his potential in the space field was immediately recognized, and he was our third man to reach the Moon, After my conversation with Kyle, I was curious to know what had become of my other classmates. The next day I went down to the new hospital to see ANNETTE FANN, who is head nurse there, to get from her any information I could about our old classmates. She told me that GRACE CARTER was working with the Red Cross somewhere in South Africa. LINDA SPELL, after finishing medical school at the University of California, is taking post graduate work at Duke University. It seems that IANICE PETERSON was swept off her feet by some guy froin Maine. BETTY WRENCH, presently working for the New York Times, has become famous because of several short stories. PAMELA I-IAWLEY also entered the literary worldg last year she won the Pulitzer Prize for one of her works. LINDA TEW has settled down in the Clement Community and is happily married. She owns and operates a small beauty shop. BRENDA WORLEY seems to have climbed the ladder of siccess very quickly for she is the personal secretary of our own Vice-President. This was all the information Annette could give me so I thanked her and continued on my way. Upon checking my list I found that I had accounted for all my classmates except three. I stopped at a coffee shop downtown, bought-a newspaper, and decided to relax for a few minutes. As I opened the paper, I saw the headlines of the sports page which read as follows: Leadfoot West and Speed Stewart Pilot Home Two Lewis Cars. This was a detailed description of how LARRY , WEST and CHARLES STEWART had driven DONNIE LEWlS's cars to first and ' second place finishes in a local stock car race. This includes everyone, and all seem to have found their places in this ,W b fast growing world. ROY JACKSON Prophet 31 4 l Cya, .b ff R- 1 I ues :LJ N I Underclassmen ,wr -. -s..
