A f u In Memoriam We, the staff, in behalf of the student body and faculty, wish to pay trib- ute to the memory of two former students of Cleburne High School, Sharon fShadyJ Blair and Robert QRobl Fullerton. Shady participated in many organizations during her school years. She held the position of head majorette, band sweetheart, and twirler. Her twirl- ing experience began inher early years while serving as the mascot for the Cleburne High Band. She was an active member in her church. Shady was loved by all who knew her. She will long be remembered for her contributions in school activities and her warm and congenial personal- ity. Rob was active in many activities in and out of his school life. He enjoy- ed leading a life in the outdoors. He loved the rodeo and often participated in these activities as a member of the Junior Sheriff Posse. He was an ac- tive member of his church. Rob was an adventuresome person and a true friend to many. He will be remembered for his lively personality, Dedication Each year the annual staff of Cleburne High School ded- icates its work to some member of the faculty who, in doing his job of molding the citizens of the future, deserves spe- cial recognition. This year the distinction belongs to a teacher who has served Cleburne High faithfully for thirty-seven years, not only as a faculty member but also as housemistress of Addams House. As sponsor of the Spanish Club, she has helped to make the subject she has taught more appealing and interesting to her students. Having kept the welfare of the student always in mind, she can look back over her teaching career with the sat- isfaction of knowing that her efforts have not been in vain. The annual staff proudly presents the 1965 edition of THE SANTA FE TRAIL to Miss Rilla Armstrong. Administration X X , I Q'-217 V. 'f'ff'f ,Q ff! f--X 'M X 'f-Q. X i '. J Jytrt , , , 2 Gary Lackey Jimmy Jones Danny Griffin Wingback Left Tackle Right End The 1954 edition of the Cleburne team presenteda very rosy picture to the home fans as the Yellow Jackets beat a favored Brownwood 14 to 6. Opportunity knocked twice for Cleburne in the forms of an intercepted pass and a recovered fumble. The Jackets got a touchdown in the first quarter when quarterback Dick Turner passed to wingback Tommy Allen for 35 yards and a score. The pass capped a drive which started on the Llon's 43 yard line where Arlie Scott had intercepted an enemy pass. Jimmy Jones, Cleburne kicking specialist, converted. During the second quarter, Steve Jiles recovered a Brownwood fumble on the opponent's 34 yard line and the Jackets scored in 9 plays with Scott punching the ball over. Again Jones converted. The Lions got a fire under their tails as the eleven from Brownwood marched 60 yards for their lone touch- down. The main ground gainers in this drive were an 18 yard pass and a 26 yard run. The score at half-time was Cleburne 14, Brownwood 6. The second half was all defense for the Jackets as they withstood continual Brownwood threats. Key men in the Cleburne defense were Larry Owens, Gary Lackey, Carroll Steelhammer, Tommy Allen, Jimmy Jones, Larry Teague, Danny Griffin, Gary Butler, and Bill Moore. Howe gallops around end for a substantial gain. 177 Cleburne's offense clicked as Butler i303 scores from two yards out. J iles C745 and Underwood i435 look on. After spotting the lead twice to a determined Breckenridge eleven, Cleburne finally prevailed against its familiar rival. The Buckeyes sustained a '74 yard drive in 16 plays for the first score of the game. Two points were made on the conversion attempt, and the score midway in the second period stood Breckenridge 8, Cleburne 0. The Yellow Jackets retaliated when Allen recovered a fumble on the Cleburne 47. Five plays and a 22 yard run by Turner resulted in the first Cleburne tally. Scott punched the ball into the end zone and Pou received a perfect pass from Turner for the two point conversion. The score stood at an 8 to 8 tie as the bands marched onto the field for the halftime activities. The Buckeyes moved from their 26 to score in 11 plays with 3:34 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed. Undaunted, the Cleburne offense took the ensuing kickoff and Turner engineered a '71 yard drive with Howe, Butler, and Scott contributing their talents as ground gainers. J ones' toe was the big difference as the kicking specialist converted to make the final score Cleburne 15, Breckenridge 14. Si' W , Cleburne Downs Killeen Z9-6 For the first time Killeen's Kangaroos scored on the Jackets, but six points was not enough as Cleburne rolled to a 29 to 6 victory. The first score came as a result of bad center. Killeen tried to punt on their own 11 yard line and the ball sailed over the kicker's head into the end zone for a safety. The rest of the first half was mainly a defensive battle. After running the second half kickoff 39 yards to Killeen's 46, Turner decided to end defensive tactics as he engineered the Jacket offensive machine to the first TD of the game. Contributing to the efforts were Butler, Griffin, and Pou. Gary Lackey recovered a Kangaroo fumble on the opponents' 42 yard line to put Cleburne into excellent field position for its second touchdown, which came 9 plays later as Butler crashed over from the nine. Not to be denied, the Killeen team came back with a 67 yard drive which included a 40 yard pass. The score was then 15 to 6, Cleburne's favor. The Jackets came back to put the game on ice in the waning moments of the fourth quarter with two touchdown drives of 60 and 52 yards, with Butler, Teague, and Griffin chewing up yardage. ,T ones converted on three out of four attempts' and the final score stood Cleburne 29, Killeen 6.
