Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1970 volume:

THE TIGER '70 Cleburne County High School Heflin, Alabama i . Zrr o V $ , This year was basically the same as any high school year; we studied - had fun, ex- perienced sad moments of trial and error. School bonds were passed. There were games and dances; voices were hoarse froi rooting. There were brief moments of glory for some of us in sports, musical and dramatic productions. All shared the hopeless reality of examinations and deadlines, the semester grades, the noontime Sugar Shack rush. These im- pressions are only a few that were packed into this full year Safe Credit for the production of this book goes to the loyal Tiger Staff. The Staff, however. has furnished only the outlines of the story that we find when we turn these pages filled with warm smiles of friendship and many happy recollections. The rest is up to the individual. Underclassmen who return to CCHS in the fall will continue to keep up the high standards of the school and strive for improvement. Graduates will go their separate ways using the knowledge they have gained here to reach their successes. It is not today that you will appreciate the TIGER. Tomorrow, when it is not so easy to think back on 1970, we will treasure the memories this book has stored for us. The following statement will always hold true: “’Tis pleasant, sure, to see one’s name in print”” 2 DEDICATION We pause 'mid the wonders of Life And the magic of Science, To bring forth on this page the Golden mements of time just past. It is our wish to walk again the Paths of laughter and fun that he walked. Although he no longer walks these paths. He will not be forgotten. We, the members of the Class of 1970, Dedicate this book to Donald L. Angel. 3 A long summer of diligent practice brought the desired results when the Tiger Band brought home a 1 rating from the Governor's Marching Festival in Dalton, Georgia. 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS UNDERCLASSMEN AND ADMINISTRATION SENIORS ORGANIZATIONS EDITORS Co-Editors — Deborah Coggins Weldon Holcombe Classes — Jane Cole Activities — Becky Tolleson Sports — Allyson Grant Business Manager — Rebecca Lumpkin ADVERTISING 7 1970 Look out world, here we come! 9 WITH APPRECIATION . . Mrs. Chesnut There is a certainty in this woman Who is unafraid to share herself with others Unafraid to become involved in the Candid life of a student. This certainty she lives Is the lesson she teaches. She engages with vitality Her learning and teaching life. We admire the way she approaches its problems, And she is our example. We aspire to be like her As she is like Christ. Thus in this book with appreciation We attempt to return some of the Respect that she first gave to us. 1969-70 TIGERS Bonfires and Pep Rallys kept the spirit high as the 1969-70 Tigers broke the losing streak. 12 13 PLACES, i. ) ) il 17 Virginia Albright Jimmy Beam William Blake Freddy Boyles Dennis Austin Charles Benefield Kathy Blanton Nell Bragg Leland Barker Terry Benefield David Bowman Kay Brown Andy Barnett Aaron Biggers Randall Boyd Linda Ann Brown 18 Lynda Brown Larry Buttram Deborah Cash Martha Cobb Russell Brown Edna Campbell Ricky Chambless Rita Cobb Ann Bryant Exie Campbell Peggy Cheatwood Mickey Cofield Bud Burgess Shirley Campbell Elaine Clay Deborah Coggins 19 Jane Cole Patricia Curvin Scott Dennis Terry Elkins Linda Crosson Sandra Davis Bobby Dewberry Vickie Faulkner Nancy Crosson Steve Davis Billy Driggers Jacky Gaines Kay Crowson Barbara DeArmond Debbie Dunn Dona Gamer 20 Alvin Ginn Lee Hayes Weldon Holcombe Terry Humphries Charlotte Ginn Debra Haywood Billy Holley Audie Hyatt Allyson Grant Linda Faye Hicks Marie Holt David Jacks Dale Hammonds Roger Hill Horace Hudgins Donald Jacobs 21 Joan Johnson Rebecca Lumpkin Stephen McElroy Kitty Polk Rita Lambert Kathi Moore Donnie McLeroy Ray Pugh Gail Lewis Valeria Loveless Elizabeth McCormick jenny McCrary Joyce Norton Billy Pate Mike Pullen Kayron Riddle 22 Jessie Robinson Ann Sayer Sandra Sprayberry Marilyn Thompson Ronnie Robinson Carolyn Smith Harold Taylor Becky Tolleson Arthur Rochester Tony Smith Cathy Terrel Gerald Tompkins Judy Rollins Willis Smith Terry Thomas Donald Triplett 23 Judy Triplett Melody Waits Elaine Wheeles Roger Wisener Brenda Turner Jimmy Walker Eddie Whitman Buddy Yates Lynda Vaughn Barbara Warren Debora Wike Diane Yates Pat Waites Gary Webb Jerry Wisener 24 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS ALVIN GINN, F resident KAYRON RIDDLE, Reporter RAY PUGH, Vice-President NANCY CROSSON, Secretary-Treasurer SENIOR SPONSORS 25 MRS.
