With only a shade of discretion, Stan Faulkner peeks at a note from one of his innocent-looking fnends: Byron Phillips. Shelley Skaggs. Gary Umfleet. Kara Prewitt, or Michelle Laxton. Playing in the shade, these mature high schoolers don't mind looking childish; Don Heffner. Lisa Page. Tina Collins, Sherrie Fulton, and Laura Stevenson. Drive and determination made the difference in David Lawson s winning in the Black River Electric Essay contest. As usual, Julie, Deanna, Lisa, Terri, Karen, Pam, Tina, and Karen are doing what they know how to do best. Smiling at the camera! Looks like Julie is getting the ‘‘underclassmen’’ punish- ment from the one and only “Steve Ophrah Harper.” Stan is doing what we call, “getting into the swing of things.” W A Student Life 23

Shades of Personality Make the Difference The events and classes may not change much from year to year, but the personalities involved make the differences that make things continually interesting. Like the changes in fashion, especially blue jeans, the changes in the student population are subtle but noticeable. Who would have thought a few years ago that the popular blue denim would be even more popular if if looked as though if had been beaten on a rock and left in the sun for weeks developing large holes? Who would think, looking at the kids wearing those threadbare jeans, that these people would have the drive and energy characteristic of Clearwater students? Surprise, they do! Despite the shades and fades, Clearwater students climbed higher and raced farther in all areas of com- petition than ever before. We compete even at Christmas with a door decorating contest. Mrs. Coleman's door won third place In this day and age. home economics tor guys is more than a credit in a practical art; it is a necessary preparation for life James Donnelly. Sean Brown, and Tracy Leach will appreciate what they are learning a few years from now Teachers got into the quiz bowl competition during an assembly program which was ar- ranged to give the student team a pre-bowl workout Unfortunately, the teachers weren't much competition for the student team Deb- bie Jimerson.
