TIGER 1986 Astronauts Ellison S Omzuka, Christa McAuliffe, Gregory B Jarvis, Judith A. Resnick. Michael J Smith, Francis R Scobee and Ronald E McNair The explosion of the space shuttle Challenger on January 28,1986, devastated the entire nation. The crew of the Challenger will always be remembered. Thirty-seven years old Christa McAuliffe, a New Hampshire social studies teacher, was chosen from 11,146 applicants to be the first to fly in the Citizen-in-Space Program. In memory of McAuliffe, the Clearwater Teachers Association presented a scholarship to a 1986 graduate majoring in science. Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;... I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God! from High Flight John Gillespie Magee, Jr. Administration 2 Music 68 Faculty 4 Clubs 78 Classes 8 Elementary 106 Sports 44 Index 144 CLE ARW ATER R-1 •ADMINISTRATION AND BOARD OF EDUCATION Board ol Directors. They publish a daily newspaper called The Memo; they keep track of hundreds of students; dozens of teachers, several lost articles of clothing, and who's on hall duty. They make coffee, wipe runny noses, answer the phone and file yesterday's lunch count all at once. They seldom hear Thank You for all of this, but they are too busy to notice.
