JOE BUMPUS 2 FOREWORD We gaze awed, on a whirling, modern world . . . on a nation that has reached out with eager groping hands to conquer the mysteries of the earth and now reaches out with new intensity, constantly seeking, anxiously probing, exploring the dark chasms of the unknown to grasp and conquer the infinite universe in the immortal clutch of knowledge. We watch, cautiously, the determined stride of our nation and catch our breaths for tomorrow we know that our's will be this conquest we hasten our pace, striving harder, moving forward, molding youth into man, man into citizen, preparing for tomorrow. We set our goals higher and higher, building new strength in mind and body, gaining confidence and the power of knowledge to sustain our flight through life persistently we move onward, pushing farther and farther, until suddenly we realize that we are caught up in our nation's intricate pattern of progress . . . A SMALL PART OF THE SPACE AGE DEDICATION The Staff of 10 SCENES would like to pay tribute to Mr. Henry A. White as he leaves his post as Superintendent of the Clearwater School System. A native of this area, Mr. White began teaching at the age of seventeen and has spent thirty-one years in Pied- mont in the capacity of teacher, principal and superin- tendent. Through these years our school has grown and progressed under his leadership and determination. Mr. White served as president of the Wayne County Teach- ers Association for five years, and his work with the Beta Clubs and as Beta Club State President has benefited those not only in our school district but throughout the state. We are proud to dedicate this edition of our high school annual to Superintendent White in appreciation for the years of dedicated servi ce he has given to our schools.
