In addition to learning the methods of thought organization, the student also learns to speak more effectively and proficiently. A first and second year Speech are offered to all students, but Debate is for selected students only. Among the students 7 activities are National Forensic League Congresses, and weekend Debates held throughout the area. Other competitive facets of the subject include extem- poraneous speaking, original oratory, and dramatic interpretation. drivers’ education Teaching the vital responsibilities encountered in the operation of an automobile is the principal purpose of the Drivers 7 Education Department. FORREST SMITH, U. of Fla., B.A.E., B.F.A., M.Ed., Mech. Drawing, Art. Our Industrial Arts program includes General Woodworking, Arts and Crafts, and Mechanical Drawing. Woodworking students learn to design and construct products in wood. By use of academic activity in conjunction with laboratory work, projects are designed, their construction studied and the project produced. These tasks are accomplished by hand and machine processes. The Arts and Crafts course aims primarily to develop basic under- takings and skills through working with ceramics, leather, copper enameling, copper tooling, and other materials. It includes the de- velopment of an ability to use leisure time by filling it with self- satisfying work. Mechanical Drawing has been called the language of industry and engineers, architects, and designers use it to record their ideas. Mechanical Drawing teaches visual and constructive imagination •and the habit of exact thinking. industrial arts

Diversified Cooperative Training provides working and learning situations for those high school Juniors and Seniors who are interested in positions in trade areas such as machine shop practice, electronics, radio and television servicing, auto mechanics, dental as- sistants and many others. As in the other classifica- tions, these students complete the high school gradu- ation requirements while working one-half day. distributive education The Distributive Education cooperative program al- lows Juniors and Seniors to work in positions involv- ing selling merchandise or service. These students also have the opportunity to learn while they earn and must attend school one-half day to complete the required graduation subjects.
