h department ■■ MARGARET HOWELL, Furman Univ., Univ. of Ala., B.A., M.A., Eng. IV, Spanish I, Usherettes. Much can be learned about a person by the way he expresses himself in both writing and speech. We are particularly proud of the English Department here at C.H.S. During his three years of this subject, the student is given extensive instruction in grammar, writing, and literary appreciation which will prove invaluable in any field of endeavor. Besides the usual studies found in the high school English Department, this school has placed great emphasis on creative writing. For the second year, a literary magazine is being presented which contains original works of the students. Also, for the first time, an Advanced Writing class is being offered in which students are coached in the fine art of creative writing for one semester. The second semester is a continuation of the Advanced Writing plus a look at some of the world ' s finest literature. JOHANNE R. HAR- MAN, F.S.U., U. of F., Appalachian State, A.B., English IV, Stu- dent Council. v CLEGG McALEENAN, Elon College, North Carolina, A.B., Eng- lish II, Annual Ad- visor, Assistant to Registrar. li q il if ■ ■ i M jfrJ AiSJ ;» 1 1 a J f if 1 fH M 1“ 1 V
