DEPARTMENT History — the teaching of America’s heritage, past and present — is taught at Clearwater High School in order to help in the future students studying sit- uations of the past; we hope to improve things in the future and learn how to live with one another. Among the courses offered are World History, Amer- ican History, American Government, Psychology, and Economics. One sign of the modern age is the fact that there is both an American History and World History class using TV, to supplement the les- sons taught by the teacher. 23

HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT The Homemaking program is constantly grow- ing and includes four major parts: classroom in- struction, Future Homemakers of America chap- ter, home projects and home visitation, and the rapidly expanding adult program. The Future Homemakers chapter is growing in numbers, activities and Degrees of Achieve- ment. One of the main purposes of this organiza- tion is to develop leadership abilities. Contrary to the old belief, classroom instruc- tion consists of much more than just cooking and sewing. The range of areas includes every- thing from these standbys to child care and Home Nursing. Equal stress is now being put on principles as well as skills in all areas. ZYLPHIA LEWIS Eastern State College, Uni- versity of Kentucky, B.S., and M.A., Homemaking, Future Homemakers of America.
