;g agi£ AT last it’s dons; the way is finished! And twelve years now consummate in this— our graduation. Oh, how we pursued that distant, glorious day; Every game, every word was ha: nested to the thought That someday we would step forth as men and women! But now we look behind; We faintly recall the first years. The sand table, and the colored chalk, The rhymns we learned, and the stories we read, And how when the lesson bored us Our minds fled beyond the windows And we heard the poetry of singing birds And saw the splendor of the sunbeam shining down the aisle. We pass over the years to the moment that brought us here To this school, then strange and new. But is she strange or new today? We’ve grown within these walls ana become a part of her! Within those corridors, within these rooms, We passed the weeks and months that constantly, silently enhanced our stature. As memories reflected shroud the past in her peculiar cloak of fancy. We hear the faintly fading footsteps, The happy days, the things that made us laugh — And at once we listen to the silence and the murmur of the things behind. At last we pass beyond these doors nd with certain sense of sadness we hear them And after the latch snaps tight, barring us from the Fountain of Fellowship, Only the sweet spring of recollection can give us drink.

tOe Pass On Tlumbered Steps We pass on numbered steps which taken must be measured as they fall, For from the ebbing echoes of these silenced halls We hear the footsteps which passed this door before. We almost hear their youthful, beating hearts Holding happy, hidden dreams — Hearts that hope and wonder, Souls that seek and wander, As we laugh and dream and saunter on. But well we know That though our feet may never climb these stairs again, Though we escape these halls The doors, slammed shut by the winds of fancy, Have trapped a portion of our hearts inside Left to mingle with the echoes.
