S. at the end of this school year will hold a special significance for our school and for one of our most-re- spected teachers, Alice Parker. As we go to press, March 3, 1969, we have learned that Miss Parker is retiring from teaching. With the exception of three years, her entire teaching career has been centered around Clearwater High School. We students know Miss Parker as our most-helpful librarian--and for us junior and senior girls, an inspiring Kayette sponsor--but we also know that some of our parents and hundreds of other individuals have had the privi- lege of being a student in one or more of her classes. Her excellent teaching and influence for good in our school and com- munity can never be measured, we know, but we would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation--as well as that of those hundreds who have walked through the halls of C. H. S, before us--for her years of selfless devotion and excellent service. The AFTERGLOW staff, student body, and faculty extend their best wishes to Miss Parker at this time and wish her well in her new activities. TE DE T . . . if' it With the delivery of this annual, another memorable school year is drawing to a close. jj Events have taken place during the year which astounded, shocked, and dismayed all of us. 'rfargigtg-1?F E It is our hope that the experience gained in school will better equip each student to realis- tically face the joys and sorrows which will be encountered in the days and years ahead. We feel that your school has done its share to aid in the development of strong and thoughtful indi- viduals, who are truly concerned for each other. I am justly proud to have been associated with all of you and extend to you my best wishes for a bright future. Q2 Leo E. Anschutz B. S., University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas M. S., Fort Hays K. S. A htmdred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be a little different because I was important in the life of someone young. This I be- lieve is the personal philosophy of all our staff members at Clearwater High School. Only you, the students of our school, can prove through your accomplishments after you leave us here, that your teachers' contributions have been positive by directly proceeding to make this a better world to live in. Pursue your further endeavors with a will, and justify all our faith in you by your outstanding achievements in the years ahead. We believe in you very much. The Best of Luck to the Class of 1969. Your Principal, James B. Charles B. A., Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas M. A., Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas X-- Ya np IUNIQR HIGH PRINCIPAL We have just been through a successful school year. All of us have enjoyed working with our youth. It is a good feeling to know that we have a part in making their educa- tion a more complete one. So many of our youth of today are interested in accom- plishing more than ever before. This is a challenge to our school system and I believe that we are meeting this chal- enge. As educators we must make our community a better community to live in by doing the school's part in the growing up of our youth. joe Pate B S., McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas '- M. S., Ft. SENIORS SENIORS ,hw For us seniors there was something different about the first day of school this year, some- htJ 't thing that made all of the excitement a little strange: It was our last first day . Throughout the year we had our last dances, book reports, ball games, term papers, banquets, and gov- ernment tests, Now, as graduation approaches, our minds are divided between regret for the carefree UQ high school days, now gone, and our eager anticipation ofthe future. J UNIORS The juniors assumed a role of lead- ership this year, first by surpassing their goal of 353600. OO for magazine sales, and later by taking an active part in many of the school activities. A highlight of the year was the se- lection of class rings. Sets of Colum- bia blue, the new school color, were offered for the first time this year, and many students happily took advantage of the choice. Although they were several weeks late in arriving, the rings were greeted with excitement. The preliminary tests and trials leading to their final year have well qualified the class to take over the re- sponsible role ahead of it next year. H- M 5. ,T . my 50 ' i ws-fy rffbffkfh ATHLETICS OUTSTA DINC ATHLETE Ernie Reusser was selected by this year's coaches, Richard Wells and Ronald Folk, to be featured as the AFTERGLOWHS Outstanding Athlete . Selection for this honor was made not only upon his athletic participation and ability but it included, among other things, his attitude toward his fellow team members, coaches, the school, and sports in general. In making their final decision, the coaches also took into consideration Ernie's participation in other school activities as well as his classroom accomplishments, ln each of his four years in high school, Ernie has been a member of the school's football, basketball, and track teams. His taking part in these sports earned for him, in his final three years of school, membership in the letternian's organization, the C Club of which he is secretary this year. A high light of his junior year was his placing third in the one -half mile event in the State Indoor Track Meet, and he is a four-year member of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Despite a heavy athletic schedule, Ernie has found time to be a strong supporter ofthe school's vocal music groups as he has been a member of the boys' glee club for four years and the mixed chorus, three, Proving his popularity with his fellow students was his election to serve as a member of the student council in both his sophomore and junior years. Other honors that have come Ernie's way this year were his being se- lected as an escort in the football homecoming ceremony in October and his being elected by the student body as a candidate FOR and an ESCORT in the Mr, and Miss C, H, S, contest in December. ln February, he had the diminction of being elected the basketball king and of bestowing appropriate honors upon the queen, Ernie has not only given of his time and ability successfully in the activities mentioned above, but he has maintained a B Minus grade average in Clearwater High School, and he ranks in the upper one -third of his class. 52 C-CL UB One of the outstanding accomplishments of the club members this year was the purchase of a movie camera for the athletic department. Funds for this equipment were raised by the individual members selling their time and services to local residents at a slave sale .
