arauders March Beyond Expectations Despite being the smallest competing band in Flor- 2 ida, the Marauder marching band successfully com- peted throughout the Southeast. They toppled many bands, some four times their size, and won a total of 25 trophies and plaques. Under the field leadership of Drum Major Marie Martin and musical direction of Ray Hawkinson, the group journeyed as far away as Tifton, Ga. Probably the most memorable competition, ac- cording to band members, was the Crestview Invita- tional. Out of 12 bands, the Marauders eamed straight superior ratings in percussion, color guard, drum major, brass, wood winds, and majorettefdrill team. Their music execution placed first over all. During the first semester of the year, the six section editors Q Nicole Lapeniere, Kathleen Kel- ly, Jenny Zeller, Kami Lawson, Cris Sabol, and Trudy Sagerl developed the theme and began working on the opening, senior, and sports sec- tions. Third quarter began with new staff members learning the basics and Jacquie Bucci being ap- pointed copy editor. Each staff member worked extremely hard to complete Explosions 87.
