HS Scores High Left to right Doug Maus president Mary Monaghan vice president Sandy Carroll secretary Hot pictured Peter Baz zinr treasurer The National Honor Society QNHSJ tried to keep an opti- mistic attitude throughout the year, but according to Pres- ident Doug Maus it was a constant struggle because it was extremely difficult to accomplish goals with only sev- en members total. It was not until the March 5rd induc- tions that twenty-one new members joined the other seven and made the NHS an organization. In order to qualify for membership in the NHS, the stu- dents must meet certain criteria. First, in order to be eligi- ble to apply, the students must have and maintain a cu- mulative grade point average of 15.5 for three consecutive years. Next, the students must display character, scholar-T ship, leadership, and service. Once these criteria havei been met, an application must be filled out to be screenedi by a faculty-committee. i Once in the NHS the members sponsor activities to raisei money for their organization to send a select few to con- ventions. They began the year by sponsoring dances and by having bake sales. Every year they decide on one pro- ject to devote most of their time. This year's NHS commu- nity service project was a book drive to expand the Pinel- las County Maximum Security Prison Library. etting Honored In A Cultural Way K , mm The French Honor Society is a prestigious club for high-achieving students in the French curricu- lum. Prerequisites for this year's Honor Society included three consecutive semesters in French with an average of 9f5Cyo or better, a membership in the French club, and a commitment by the student to continue in the study of French while attending Clearwater Central Catholic. The FHS, in conjunction with the French Club, sponsored a field trip to a French restaurant at the opening of the school year. On St. Patrick's Day, FHS members sold balloons to Central students as a fundraiser. Students could purchase balloons for their friends to wish them 'lthe luck of the Irish. The profits went towards inductions at the end of the year, and was the biggest profit ever made by FHS in Central's history. lt was not only successful, but also a great deal of fun. Involved in many enjoyable activities, each member worked hard to make their events excit- ing and rewarding for their club. ireh . A Mawr 1 Hifi! WW, W' earbook Staff Crrasps The Past The school year started early for the Praeda- tor yearbook staff, with staff members attending seminars in Cocoa Beach and at USF in Tampa. At the seminars, the staff members gained knowledge about yearbook and started plan- ning the book. During the first semester of the year, the six section editors Q Nicole Lapeniere, Kathleen Kel- ly, Jenny Zeller, Kami Lawson, Cris Sabol, and Trudy Sagerl developed the theme and began working on the opening, senior, and sports sec- tions. Third quarter began with new staff members learning the basics and Jacquie Bucci being ap- pointed copy editor. Each staff member worked extremely hard to complete Explosions 87.
