BASKETBALL .. I W BLAST OF EXCI TEMEN T Hanging from the rim, I get a close-up view of the basketball team and the secret of their suc- cessful season. I would describe this season as an incredible one. The team work cannot be compared to any other. They worked to achieve their goal, to win state. The many hours of practice paid off We faced quite a bit of pressure, Coach Zimmerman stated after the state game, We've played close games all season against our ri- vals. The Marauders have been standing tall for the past two years with state trophies to prove it. This is a great group of skilled athletes, CCC coach Gary Zim- merman remarked. The starters: Chris Marquardt, Vic Stephens, David Degitz, Mike Malzahn, and Brian Harris played very well this season and led their team to many victories. Wc Ste- phens, being a member of the bas- ketball team for four years, two of which ended with state champion- 160 ships, says We hung in there all season and got Hred up for every game. Vic, a super out-going play- er, tried to keep the ball in CCC's possession. In the process, he flipped over a scorer's table, Vic always does that kind ofstuff to get us going, says 6'8 center, Dave Degitz. It kind of scares us, he's such a clutch player, Dave Degitz was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1987 State Basketball Tournament. David's always up and down, Zimmerman says, When we need him to play well, he really steps forward and plays well, but he doesn't like the lime- light.
