Spanish Honor Society Induction 0 Q W My law., Thirty three new members were in- ducted into the Spanish Honor Society on May 15. Each member lit a candle for inspiration and received a flower as a welcoming gift. El Trobador , a love story, was perfomied by Spanish stu- dents wearing beautiful Spanish cos- tumes. A guest speaker, Injeniero Max Borges, spoke on how important know- ing two languages is career-wise. Also President Marie Foley explained why the ceremony was in honor of Jorge Man- ack, a famous Spanish writer.

French Honor Society Induction On May 15, at 7:50, 12 new members were in- ducted into the French Honor Society. An opening prayer was said by Jamilyn Jackson and the play The Prince Who Could Not Sneeze was per- formed by the French Ill class. The history of the candle ceremony was told in French by Kristen Adikes and translated into English by Robert Miotke. Each new member held a candle which symbolized their newly found unity in the French Honor Society. The new members recited the French motto 'lvouloir C'est Pouvoir meaning, Where there's a will, there's a way. After the ceremony the members enjoyed refreshments with their families. 115 SOC6 0 0953 I DE

On Wednesday. May 27, 1987, the Academic Awards Assembly took place in the McLaughlin Center. The evening began with the invocation by Father Proulx. Students receiving awards an- nounced previously were the first to be recognized. The senior awards fol- lowed, the highlight being the an- nouncement of the valedictorian, Hope McGowan, and the salutatorian, Paulee Caughlin. The junior, sophomore, and fresh- men awards were announced next fol- lowed by the competition awards. Stu- dents receiving a 98Wo average or better received subject area depart- ment awards. The last awards an- nounced were the social awards which included Mr. and Miss School Spirit for each grade level. Hard Work fra Q 134
