Culbert, is striving to teach the music student the basics of musicianship and harmonics. This is being accomplished by means of individual instruction and group participation, which provides an interesting way to learn and progress. The band has had many and varied activities this year. Out- standing among these is the band's participation at football games, where each week the band produced a colorful and inter- esting routine. The band's season was brought to a fitting close with a fine spring concert. The vocal music department direct-ed by Mrs. F. Douglas and Mr. V. Evangelista, is endeavoring to instruct the chorus members in voice training and basic ensemble work. The repertoire of the choirs varies from the religious Negro spirituals to the melodious works of modern day composers. The various choruses and choirs in this department have per- formed for the enioyment of the student body as well as the interested public a number of most entertaining concerts. This has been a very successful year for the choruses and we hope the group continues to flourish. 5 nf L 6, 9 1? Although the team was beaten soundly, they can chalk the year up as experience with all but two lettermen coming back next year. ln the final contest of the season, the Thanksgiving game against Sterling, the Pioneers led part way through the game. This was perhaps the best played game ofthe season, thus pointing out that the boys were improving and will be a real tough opponent next year. It has been a little rough going for them but the team has worked hard and shows a very good chance for next year with the help of some of the Sophomores who have shown that they are in there fighting for many of the Varsity positions. A lot of work has been done by the three coaches, Mr. Stetson fvarsityl, Mr. Kollmeier U.V.l, and Mr. Kapczynski ffreshmenl. These three men have spent a lot of time trying to bring Clearview its first successful basketball team. Clearview, who is a member of the Olympic Conference, can be proud of its basketball team for playing real good basketball against the top teams in the Conference. At the printing of this article, the freshmen had won Q few games and Mr. Kollmeier's squad was lust barely edged out, so there is a good prospect for the future. The team has been handicapped by the lack of height and exper- ience. Next year we will have the experience and can look forward to a successful season from our basket- ball team. Coach William Sarkas and his staff have trans- formed an inexperienced group of Sophomores and Juniors into the nucleus of a well-rounded wres- tling squad. Though the team was unable to win any matches this year, the valuable experience gained sets the squad up for many successful seasons to come. The boys themselves deserve credit for the Vogt, W. The squad was indeed fortunate to be effi- ciently coached by Mr. Sarlcas, Mr. Kolchin, and Mr. Yaeger. Through the con stant efforts of these coaches the team has learned the basic funda- mentals of catch as catch can wrestling and, most important, the value of clean sportsmanship.
