SENIOR CLASS HISTORY As we, the class of 1958, wistfully look back over our senior year, acknowledging our suc- cesses and failures, we have the satisfaction of knowing we really did our best. When the doors opened September 4, 1957, we entered with our hearts light and our hopes high, determined to accomplish big things right from the start, which we did. We elected the following as our class leaders -Jim Freeland, president, Bob Jay, vice-presi- dent, Jane Evans, secretary, Nellie Lombardo, treasurer, and Paul Stegner, historian. Although our football team did not have a winning year, it was in there trying. Nor did the basketball or wrestling teams have winning seasons but as our football team, they did their best. Our class was well represented in these three sports. Our track team had a very suc- cessful year-winning all their dual meets. Dale Kuhns won the District Championship in the shot put and discus while Charles Fama did so in the iavelin. Our volleyball team also boasted an undefeated season in dual competition and, in addition, won the district championship. A fairly successful season was had by our golf team. Sen- ior members were Jim Lanager and Clayton Teats. Our baseball team did not come through victorious in all its games but we feel this was partly due to the arrival of a late and wet spring and a rather green team. Our seventeenth annual variety show, Musi- cal Downbeat, was an exceptional combination of talent and comedy. In January Meretta Gise- white, Jane Evans, Sarah Wiggins, Claude Kowal- ski, Jim Barton, Bill Betts, and Mike Podmenik represented CHS at District Orchestra. At District Chorus in March were Brenda Foor, Jane Evans, Jean Lewis, Nancy Johnson, Claude Kowalski, Jim Barton, Les Mitchell and Janet Baird. Our District Band representatives were Janet Baird, Brenda Foor, Claude Kowalski, Jim Barton, Mike Podmenik, and Rita Spingola. Perhaps the two most memorable occasions of the year were the Washington Trip last fall, which proved to be interesting and educational, and the All-School Prom on May 9, at which a good time was had by all. The All-School Play, That's My Cousin, also proved a high spot of the year. Our school year sadly came to a close with Shelf Day, Baccalaureate, and Commencement ceremonies. We pause to extend our lasting ap- preciation and gratitude to the faculty and ad- ministration. Our only hope is that we will be able to uphold the high standards of our school as we iourney forward toward building a better world. Avid athletes.. ..serious scholars.. ..whimsical wits
