Dear Pop, No one knows better than you the hard work, confusion, and fun which is always present in the preparation of the Bison. Always trying to beat the deadline for publishing the Annual, the busy members of the club perpetually crowded the physics, lab. The sophomores and juniors, along with the help of the adver- tising manager. Marc Mahatley, completed the soliciting, while the business man- agers, ,lanie Gray and Sarah Sykes, took care of the financial affairs. Competition was held to select the most literary sophomores and juniors to compose the articles. Margie Mitchell and her helpers were continually typing captions and articles trying to keep abreast of the numerous photographs taken by Frank Russell. Art editor Marty Mundt, spent considerable time looking for original ideas and applying her artistic touch throughout the book. The worries and work of plan- ning and laying out the dummy were assumed by editor-in-chief Patty Munro with much valuable aid from associate editor Nancy Sweely. In the football opener Clearfield jumped ollf to a successful start by downing a scrappy Osceola Nlills eleven. Halfbaek Stu Nlliggins provided the margin of victory by circling right end for thirty-one yards and a touchdown with eight minutes and thirty-five second gone in the third period. Fullback jerry Kyler plunged through the center for the extra point. XVith Stu Xlliggins again leading the way, the Bisons made some of their skeptical followers heat a hasty retreat by downing a fighting jersey Shore squad before a large crowd. Then DuBois handed our grid team its first loss by a T-0 score. The Bisons overpowered both State College and Philipsburg for consecutive victories. It was in the game with State College that left end Bob Fink received his collar-bone injury that benched him for the year. Fink. who starred for the Bisons, was a sharp blocker, as well as a top defensive man. Outplaying the Bisons in almost every way, the Punxsy Chucks were hotter than a two-dollar pistol. Then Tyrone handed Clearfield a 'kscrappyv loss. The statistics even more than the score indicated that our team played a vastly improved brand of football against Bellefontels lied Raiders. Ridgway topped the Bisons 20-6 on a mud covered field at our driving Park. To end the season. the Golden Tideps sudden scoring in the last quarter downed the Bisons by a large margin. Q. Vfs ended the season with a l6 won - 3 lost record. The varsity, composed of 2 seniors and 8 juniors, had a few hard-to-lose games, losing approximately 6 hy no more than 2 points. Taller and more ex- perienced teams gave us a good working over, hut weill be hack next year with experience and high spirits. We started off the season in fine style with a win over St. Marys High. The next two games were lost to Philipsburg and Ridgway by a total of 6 points. YVe won a thriller from Curwens- ville, after a loss suffered at the hands of Tyrone. Consecutive losses were handed us hy Philipsburg and a strong Punxsutawney team. VVe chalked up three successive wins over Curwensville, renovo, and St. Nlarvs. YVe lost the next game to a strong Brookville team, hut we hounced right back hy beating Sandy Township. DuBois bowed to us, but Punxsutawney again had too much power. We again overpowered DuBois, Sandy Township revenged herself from a previous de- feat, Brookville again demonstrated its power. and Renovo allowed us to end the season on a cheerful note. Hi Pop, The Clearfield Bison matmen living in what was once termed the uwrestling capital of Penn- sylvania proudly produced another undefeated season for Coach Art XVeiss. This makes a total of 13 undefeated seasons in 18 years. For the opening meet. Clearfield ruined a game win- ning streak by thumping Greenville in the loserls home town. XVithin that same week Clearfield traveled to Canonsburg to chalk up another im- pressive victory while being the viisting team. Making up for a heartbreaking loss last year, the team again showed its power by smothering Phil- ipsburg Area High. In their fourth outing the Bisons literally stampeded the visiting Hollidays- burg team. The following week the Bisons vis- ited Lock Haven and Shamokin and sent both these teams home with little to boast about. Coach Wfeissis boys made it 7 wins in a row by clouting jim Maureyis boys of State College at Luubfz, U ' the Clearfield Armory the following week. The next meet was held at DuBois and we again showed our power. For the second time the Bisonls stopped an unbeaten skein of 32 meets by thrashing Bellefonte before a crowd of more than 2.000 fans. The major upset of the evening was Les Turneris win over state champ Dave Adams. With this win under our belts we gleefully handed Tyrone a roaring setback. VVe entered the Dis- tricts at Lock Haven with glowing hopes. Wfhen all the dust had cleared away we found we had won the Team Championship and had come up with 4 individual champions-Kay Shugarts. johnny -lohnston, Sam Nlarano. and Duane Bock. These boys went into the Regionals at Clearfield and we came thru with -Iohnston and Nlarano. They entered the State Tournament at State Col- lege and both these boys became State Cham- pious. 1-.W 9 31-16322, X0 ,Q H-R.. 4253? 46'a.mlwzlL Bottom Row: J. Murray, ll. Roseberry, D. Connnino, T. The pitcher having the best pitching record was Jack Bodle with a record of three wins and one loss. Helping him in the pitching department for the Clear- field cause were Bob Vokes, Drexel Demi, and Alvin Proud. All of these boys will be back again next year. The loss of Ronnie Park and joe johns through graduation will be the greatest loss felt this year. These two boys made up a very good double play combination.
