THE YEARBOOK STAFF OF CLEAR SPRING HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS Every day we walk through the same doors, sit in the same chairs, and lean against the same lockers. During the year the path never changes, only our direction and destination. 2 ADMINISTRATION 5 ORGANIZATIONS 11 ACTIVITIES 36 ATHLETICS 43 SENIORS 57 JUNIORS 101 WM SOPHOMORES 107 FRESHMEN 111 JUNIOR HIGH 117 INC ACHES SUP ADVERTISEMENTS 123 «.«anSJS?1 PEPSI-CC BROTHERS ADMINISTRATION OUR PRINCIPAL AND VICE PRINCIPAL MR. EDWIN E. STENGER, Principal With this, the 1973 issue of the TRAILBLAZER, an era in the e d u c a t i o n a I development of the Clear Spring area comes to a close. This will be the last Yearbook issued in our present building. As the new building progresses, and the beams and blocks begin to stand against the sky, 1 am sure that we all have mixed feelings about leaving the old familiar and going to the new and unfamiliar. There will also be many changes which will bring with them many pro- blems. There will also be many things which will not change and will tend to create the ongoing sta- bility so much needed in any venture. Regardless of how new the buildings and programs may be, they may not necessarily be better unless we make them better. The important thing for all of us to remem- ber is that buildings and programs are created by people and it is with the people that success or fail- ure come about. 6 MR. J. This page merely contains a super big and special thank- you to Mr. NoelT. Kunkle from his Senior band students of 1973! Mr. Kunkle: There is so much we'd like to say and not nearly enough room to say it in. You've put up with us for six long years, from your first year as a band director when we were insure, fright- ened seventh graders, till now as we are Seniors and about ready to leave the band. You’ve worked with us, making us practice for hours and hours at a time-even when we were all beat you made us do it until it was right. But the final result was worth all the hard work because it made us proud to be part of the band and be- cause we knew we had made you proud of us. You've yelled at us but we usually understood why. We know how uptight you get before a parade or a concert and we thank you for that because it always showed us that you really cared. You've shared victory and defeat with us and yes, at times, you've even inspired us. You have helped each of us so many times and in so many ways that its not possible to begin counting them. We want to wish the future Blazer Band all the luck in the world and hope it will continue to make us proud to have once been apart of it. Thank you Mr. Kunkle, for allyour concern and devotion. It willnever be forgotten. Seniors 73'' BAND COUNCIL AND OFFICERS BACK ROW; C. Ankeney, M. Johnson, L. Higgins - Vice-President, Mr. Kunkle, D. Belz, P. Grosh - President, S. Taking place in the lobby of the Boulevard Hotel in a gift shoppe the play e- volved around a murder. Unknown to the owners, the murderer is to receive his instructions via a gift which is to be purchased at the shoppe. Little by little the word gets around and the whole cast gets the sudden notion that it's he or she that is about to be murdered. PROM Balmy breezes and starry skies provided a romantic evening for the Junior-Senior Prom TARA on May 26, 1972. Breaking away from the usual tradition the prom was held in the elegant Venice ballroom. One of the main attractions was a lovely south- ern type gazebo made of white lattice work trimmed in pink and white wisteria. This stun- ning centerpiece resulted in the long hard work of members of the junior class under the direc- tion of the Prom Chairmen Teresa Myers, Jim Clopper, and Peg Grosh. The gazebo, along with the Venice's red velvet curtains, papered walls and chandeliers provided attractive back- drops for many memorable pictures. While still other memories were made by those who strolled outside for a walk around the pool or by those who danced to the music of the Imperials. The evening was ruled successful when our Queen Brenda Mellott, escorted by Donnie Myers was crowned by Mr. and Mrs. Stenger. Her court consisted of Princesses Elaine Horst and Edith Albright, escorted by Greg Weaver and Denny Binkley respectively. Queen Brenda and Donnie NOEL Pam m C yuAtrfUjLAJ 0 0V4. Worrell A NEW BEGINNING THE TRAIL BLAZER STAFF OF 73 We of the yearbook staff, have proudly presented the 1973 TRA1LBLAZER. We have worked diligently, and it is our hope that in these pages you have found not only a word and picture portrayal of high school life but also the very personality and spirit of C.H.S. Soon many of you will be moving to the new school and this, the 25th Volume, will probably be the last edition of the TRAILBLAZER completed in this school. This new environment will offer many new experiences, friends, and activities but the cherished moments shared in this school will never be forgotten. Pictured within these pages are the things you will remember-the day-by- day routine of high school life as well as the highlights and extra-special occasions. As you have leafed through these pages we hope you will have fond remembrances of 1973 . The Staff sincerely thanks Mr. William C. Grimm, advisor, whose en- couragement and support have helped to make this book a reality. Our sin- cere appreciation also to Mr. Milton Hays for his helpfulness with its art work. The 1973 TRAILBLAZER is the result of the work of many people, and all who have shared this responsibility in any way deserve to be congratulated. 122 mWMMM • ■■: DOG FOOD ffTtN i f CARDS CRAFTS 619 Dual Highway Zayres Shopping Center Hagerstown, Md. 21740 797-0707 Compliments of .-Cterfiptefnents of HOWARD KATHLEEN GROVE PEOPLES NATIONAL BANK Hancock, Md.
