Spaulding Advisors 50 TO THE CLASS OF 1966 You have come to the end of your sojourn through high school. I say end with misgivings. It really isn't an end, but a new beginning. For many, it will be the beginning of a college education, and for others, the beginning of employment. Whatever your choice, we know that every effort was made to make your years at Clear Run High School rich opportunities of educational experiences which will furnish a foundation for successful living. We admonish you to choose wisely, to plan imaginatively, and to work industriously in carving out a career of which you and the school can be proud. I extend to you hearty congratulations and best wishes. To the members of the Yearbook Staff, we express appreci- ation for a task ably and willingly performed. COUNTY OFFICIALS Mr. J. T. Denning, Superintendent Mr. K. R. Newbold, Assistant Superintendent 68 8 = © vis mit vc MR. GEORGE W. TYLER Principal Mr. Tyler was born in Vance County, Kittrell Township in the state of North Carolina. His early education was received in the public schools of Kittrell, North Carolina and the High School Department of Kittrell College, Kittrell, North Carolina. Two years of college work were completed at Kittrell College. Because of the closing of the College in 1934, he entered Fayettville State Normal School in 1935, completing the required work in 1936. After teaching for a brief period, Mr. Tyler engaged upon the idea of becoming a Brickmason. For more than twenty years, he worked at this trade, advancing to the position of Foreman of jobs in many states. Because this type of work requires traveling from place to place, he began to tire of it. The yearn to become stationed began to occupy his thoughts and the idea of going back into the teaching field became an obsession. In 1957 and for the next two years, Mr. Tyler was enrolled at Fayettsville State Teachers College -- now Fayetteville State College. After completing his work there, his first job was at the Charles E. Perry School, Roseboro, North Carolina. In 1959, he enrolled in Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, where he received the Master of Education Degree in 1961. He has done advance study at North Carolina College in Durham, Durham, North Carolina, and North Carolina State University at Raleigh, Raleigh, North Carolina. 69 The life of a Principal is not always organized. She soon became Head of the English De= partment, and from position was promoted to the position of Guidance Counselor of Clear Run High School. Mrs. DeVane has received not only the glory of her position but the pains of the hard work as well. This can be recognized when she 1s seen checking records ssend= ing transcripts, and aiding students with personal and school problems. Mr. Tyler, Ronald Murphy, President of the Student Council; and the Counselor meet to discuss Evaluation and other school problems. CLEAR RUN HIGH SCHOOL Clear Run High School, as it approaches the termination of another school year, may look with pride at its accomplishments. This year, 1965-66 has been a good year. Enrollment during the 1965-1966 year increased to which is one of the largest enrollment figures in the history of the school. We hope that this increase in enrollment means that students have reviewed their outlooks on life and have concluded that education is all-important. The instructional staff, the heart of any school, is continually being strengthened. This year's newcomers are Mrs. Yvonne Smith, Mrs. Louise Bert, Mrs. Janet Spaulding, and Mr. James Hall. This year has been one of many changes which have all been geared toward a twofold purpose -- providing the most thorough education possible for the students and at the same time making school life at Clear Run High an unforgetable, as well as profit- ables experiences The curriculum at Clear Run High has also undergo a great change in order to meet the varying needs and abilities of the students. Courses added this year are consumer mathematics, journalism, music theory, and consumer music. We sincerely hope that our goal has been reached and that each student who has attended Clear Run High School will become a better person for having passed this way. 79 ACADEMICS Mr. Newkirk places emphasis on Current Science in his Phy- sics class. Mrs. Spaulding points out the Major Scale with three 's. Mrs. Davis emphasises this point to Richard Fennell. ACADEMICS Anthony Murphy points out the three periods in History as Mrs. White aids him in his discussion. It represents the machinery of the student body and each spring the officers are elected. The other mem- bers of the council are delegated by each class division. In addition to reckoning with varied pertinent campus issues as they may disentangle or as they may be conceived by the govern- ing body, the Council boasts that one of its immediate but contingent purposes is that of interpretating the philosophy of the school to the student body. The Council also strives to instill within the student body as well as its members an acute awareness and a personal sense of responsibility to keep abreast of current affairs. Ronald Murphy, President, of the Student Council, was born and reared near Ivan- hoe, North Carolina. He received his elementary education at Bland Elementary School, Harrells, North Carolina. After leaving Bland School, he entered Clear Run High School and engaged in some of the school's activities. He is a member of the French Club, Future Teachers of America, Science Mathematics Club. We have recorded much. For- give us the omissions. Perhaps they could not be avoided. As is the case with all yearbooks ever published, many endless hours of con- centrated effort by some special people aided in the production of this edition. Among the special people are you -- each student, each faculty member and the principal. Each one of you has helped make this edition possible by being in place when pictures were taken and by furnishing information when it was requested. We also owe a special debt of gratitudes to other individuals who served unselfishly; Miss A. GC. Billie, our Coordinator; who played a far greater part in this yearbook than any of us, and helped to make this yearbook more than a dream or a vision. She above all helped to make it a reality; to the members of the year- 140 book staff who worked hard giving much of their time and energy; to Mr. Tyler, our principal, who cooperated with us at all times; andto Mrs. Y. M. Smith, who worked diligently to help us avoid making too many gram - matricaleerrorce No yearbook can be better than its pictures, and to Mr James Peeler, our photographer, orchids are due for his patience and cooperation. And finally, we owe our gratitude to those who were kind enough to be patrons and place advertisement in our book. They helped to make this edition possible.
