Mrs. Grems gives individual instruce tion while the beginner clarinet players warm up. The beginner woodwinds stand together with their instructors Mrs. Grems and Mr. Muths. The beginner brass smiles for the camera on the stage. Beginners alue Music The second and third bands attended two of the pep rallies so they could have the chance to play for the school. They played songs like the school song, We Got the Beatf' and many others. The two band instruc- tors were Mr. Dean Muths, who directs Concert and beginner bands, ancl Mrs. Kelly Grems, who conducts Symphonic, Cadet and beginner bands. 63

Advanced viola players Craig Schulenberg, Angela Ouellette and Jesse Jost play in class. Stringed Instruments Make Beautiful Noise Clear Lake City Orchestra is sponsored by the or- chestra director, Mrs. Alice Steele. She teaches classes of beginners, intermediate, and advanced or- chestra students. There are forty beginner students who have learned to read music, to play scales, and various dot- ted rhythms. The twenty intermediate students have increased their repertoire, learned key signatures, and basically as a group have moved into second position. The thirty-two advanced orchestra students made up of mostly eighth graders have improved their play- ing skills by performing in the community and school. The orchestra participated in UIL Contest, PTA Homemaking Style Show, a String Fling, which is a concert from combined school orchestras and solo and ensemble contest. Twelve seventh and eighth graders participated in Regional Orchestra tryouts. Five eighth graders and one seventh grader were chosen.
