Mr Mike Skaer introduces the eighth grade finalists in the spelling bee. This past year's activities have been very colorful. One of the activities that all students participated in was the Spelling Bee. In the sixth grade, Ashley DeVries and Sourav Pod- dar won. Jennifer Baker won with Patrick O'Neill, in the seventh grade. Finally, Sangita Rangala and Robert Kwok won in the eighth grade. Sangita also won the school championship. Another activity that was held was the Birds of Prey assembly. Students watched Buck Bradley show us several different types of birds, including an eagle. He also told us some of the experiences that he had with these birds. Most of the birds he had brought had been hurt in some way and he had taken care of them. One other activity that some eighth graders participated in was the trip to Washington, D.C. Mrs. Pat Russell, Mrs. Rosalind Ferrero, Mrs. Pam Schaaf and Mr. Jim Hamilton were the chaperons. Some of the places they visited were the Iwo Jima, Lin- coln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and many other ex- citing places in our nation's Capital. ax E .Ui S ..-AL-.. , . .. Jennifer McMillan practices her writing skills. Jennifer McMillan died on March 13, 1983 due to a long, liver and pancreas disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Although she spent a lot of days on the home- bound program, she liked school, Santa Claus makes his appearance at the Winter Medley assembly. enjoyed writing and loved to sing in choir. The following poem she wrote is not about death, but life and how to live it. DEA TH Death is . . . When the sky opens up And all is quiet and peaceful. Death is . . . When you open the door Then close it gently behind you. Death is . . . The ending of one life, The beginning of a new. Death is . . . The one thing we all fear But the main thing that can 't be stopped. So live as you can And go quietly, gently, and peacefully.
