Advanced history students learned the judicial court system by participating in mock trials held downtown. Drama students learned what goes into a theatrical performance like the Halloween play. Students also learned the political plat- forms by listening to representative guest speakers during the campaign race be- tween Bill Clements and Mark White. They even held a mock oelection in which the students could cast their own votes. 0 Opposite page top: Jurors are sworn in for the mock trial. Fashions for girls ran along the lines of mini-skirts, leg warmers, Nikes, prairie skirts, tuxedo blouses, some Vans, and Fruit Boots. The guys wore spike haircuts and Vans. The Preppy look was also popular with guys wearing Polo or Izod shirts. Practically everyone liked to wear Ops and Town and Country surf designs. The group played numerous rock tunes and presented a skit on American history during the per- formance. The group also gave a night performance in which many students attended. Students Turn Into Dancing Valentines The lights were dimmed as the seventh and eighth graders stepped out on the gymnasium floor for the Valentines Day Dance. Students danced as they listened to songs by the Go- Go's, Sammy Hagar, Michael Jackson, and many others. Carnations were also on sale on Valentines Day. These were on sale by Mrs. Gerry Brown's reading classes. The profits were used to buy a printer and a monitor for the computer. The seventh and eighth graders that chose not to go to the dance went to the teaching theater to watch the movie, Star Warsf, Above: Alex Sarabia dances with Kim Walters. Bot' tom right: Mrs. Rosalind Ferrero dances with Tim Sullivan. Christy Van Horn burns up the dance floor Sixth graders participate in a dance of their own in a hallway. Sixth Grade Plays Paper Football While the seventh and eighth graders were at the dance, the sixth graders made paper footballs to have a paper foot- ball contest. Many sixth graders didn't participate in the paper football contest. Instead, they went to see The Muppet Movie.
