Clear Lake received the opening kick-off at the 30 yard line but could not move. The punt was blocked but Luck’s drive stalled on the Warrior 28 yard line. The Warriors took over at that point but could not move and punted to the Luck 20. Luck began to mount a drive but a penalty stalled the drive and they, in turn, had to punt. The rest of the first half was marked by stalled drives, largely as a result of penalties and one interception by- Keith Smith of Clear Lake. The second half began as a repeat of the first half though Luck did begin to mount some offensive drives. These were foiled by a fumble and some penalties. With 6:06 to go in the game, Brian Fouks scooped up a Luck fumble and raced 60 yards for a touchdown and Rick Wallberg converted for what turned out to be the only score of the game. Luck was then forced to play “catch-up” football and suffered two interceptions, one by Larry Sempf and the other by Keith Smith. Jerry Davidsavor of Luck was the leading rusher, gaining 90 yards in 21 carries. Brian Fouks gained 44 yards in 8 carries for the Warriors. The Warrior defense had 43 tackles of whick Jim Barney was credited with 14. The game was played under ideal conditions but was marked by several penalties. Clear Lake was penalized eight times for 50 yards and Luck was penalized nine times for 45 yards. The Warriors now look ahead to Clayton Friday night, Sept. 3. It’s always a toss-up when these two teams meet. 23

A Fresh Start For On Friday, August 20, Clear Lake hosted a scrimmage involving Glenwood City, Cumberland, and the hometown Warriors. A large number of Clear Lake fans had their first opportunity to see this year’s football team under the new head coach, John Phelps. Each of the three teams alternated working their offenses and defenses against those of the other two teams. Coach Phelps expressed satisfaction on some aspects of the offense-especially in fakes in the backfield and the “reads” made by the quarterbacks. He also stated, after looking at films taken at the scrimmage, that the Warriors learned and made progress on defense. Coach Phelps said the attitudes of his players were very positive, and he feels that if the boys continue to work and improve, a successful season will result. The Clear Lake Warriors traveled to Prentice last Friday evening and settled for a loss and a long bus ride. The Buccaneers won by a score of 14-6. Prentice received the opening kick and began their drive at their own 29 yard line. They, in turn, punted to the Warrior 36 yard line and then intercepted a pass at the Clear Lake 42 yard line. Quarterback John Peterson of Prentice later scored on a six yard run. The ensuing kick-off went out of bounds and Clear Lake assumed possession at their own 40 yard line. Prentice again intercepted, this time at their own 27 yard line. Their drive stalled near mid-field and they punted to the Clear Lake ten yard line. Keith Smith then sprinted 89 yards on a delayed lateral, to tie the score. Later in the half, Quarterback Peterson again scored for Prentice after Clear Lake had apparently thwarted the drive. Rick Wallberg intercepted a pass and had run several yards before the official threw his flag-pass interference against Clear Lake. The result was first down for Prentice at the Clear Lake 30 yard line. In the fourth quarter, Ted Pittman was tackled in the Warrior end zone to give Prentice a safety and make the score, 14-6. 7 U Af Ut A u a , iZ ' SA+Jtrz. tut Z Uda? ? - - £.X.
