CLASS PROPHECY The date is May 20, 1970, Orvin Hedquist, professional big game hunter, is leaving Clear Lake enroute to Africa. Larry Lien, his hot-rodding chauffeur, speeds toward the destination--San Francisco. They stop to refuel in a gas station and are surprised to find old school chum Gary Rothe owning and operating the largest gas station in Wisconsin. After a few uneventful miles along the country roads, Orvin's limousine mysteriously breaks down. They are fortunate to be helped by farmer, Dave Wahlstrom, and hired hand, Tyrone Asp, who are driving a load of hay to their farm. They are taken to Dave’s farm and eat a home-cooked meal prepared by Master Chef Joy Wilson. Meanwhile, their car is repaired faultlessly by mechanic Everett Rogers from the Ever Ready Everett garage. Having the car fixed, Orvin and Larry are invited to the big gala barn dance at the Deborah Holldorf farm. At 8:00 they arrive at the happily decorated barn and go inside. Inside they hear the gay music of Carl Frohreich's Dead Beats which consists of singer, Earl Larson: fiddler. Bob Eggert; guitar, Darrel Kuhn; accordian, Jim Stoltz; and bass fiddler, Richard Briesemeister. It was less than an hour before the couples began to arrive; there was a huge turn out. Harvey Amundsen arrived with his happy brood of 11 children. The party came to an abrupt end when Marlene Knutson came wildly galloping into the happy throng riding a white stallion and yodeling, Back in the Saddle Again.” At dawn the following day Orvin and Larry said good-bye to their hosts and with a squeal of Larry's tires are off for Las Vegas. They arrive in Las Vegas and proceed to the Richardson Night Club where singer Gordy Hammons, the teenage idol, is appearing. Gordy's two slick managers, Ron Anderson and Lyle Banks, are tending to important business in another room. Lome Campbell, the wealthy steel tycoon, is gambling successfully at the roulette table. He is with John Peterson who is the world-famous architect and Ronnie Fox, who is the most eligible bachelor in Las Vegas. After a night of exciting events, Orvin and Larry move on. In a day they arrive in San Francisco to attend a chauffeur's convention on Better Driving Techniques. The main speaker is Pat Steinberger who talks on The Art of Better Driving. Bill Skapyak is attending the meeting representing the Air Force Jet Pilots' Association. Bill Olson, the famous race car driver, is also there. His girl friend, Janice Buhr, is with him--as always. Lynn Torkelson, the president of Princeton, speaks to the crowd. After the meeting Orvin leaves to visit old classmates he knows are in town. He goes first to the Fishermen's Wharf and meets Kent and Keith Larson who are deep sea divers. After a short chat Orvin moves on to visit Connie Paulson and Joan Lenselink who are an airline stewardess and dressmaker, respectively. 20

Orvin invites all his friends to accompany him to the world's premiere of Janice Gasper's latest movie. Jeff Hilton gives her able support in the movie. At the premiere they meet famous actor Richard Neumann and he is with the beautiful lady-about-town Ruth Austinson. Orvin is surprised to see two of his old classmates leaving the theater; they are Sharon Lien, the famous model, and Carol Frank, the agent who has made Sharon a legend in Hollywood. Orvin leaves the gala affair and proceeds to the airport where he leaves for Africa. Sharon Gilbertson serves Orvin his morning tea on the airplane. The airplane is piloted by Crazy Wings Jerry Cress and co-pilot John Madden who has been known to attract lady passengers for the Gouker Airlines, headed by Kenny Gouker. Across from Orvin on the plane is famous Editor Susan Linn, who is editor of the now famous Crier. Behind Susan, Orvin notices the great novelist Bonnie Peterson who has hit the big time with her book exposing The Trials and Tribulations of a Clear Lake Cheerleader. Larry DeTar, a roving evangelist, is flying to Africa to see Dawn Johnson who is a missionary. Also on the plane is Stanley Payne who is a great humanitarian in the jungle. Orvin arrives in Africa and as he descends from the plane he is greeted by Yvonne Briesemeister. hostess of the Lome Johnson Dance Studios. He is invited to come to the dance studio and there is taught several new African dance steps by Carole Paulson and Rich Hammelman. He continues on his safari with expert guide, LaVonne Peterson. He joins a party of hunters headed by the great game hunter, Paul Setter. Paul informs Orvin that Carol Koehler is a housewife in one of the few remaining white cities in Africa. Kathy Hornick and Maryanne Frank are a doctor and a nurse in the inner parts of Africa. Thus we leave Orvin in darkest Africa after an unusual trip--meeting his friends and classmates.
