We were typical Freshmen, eager to discover more about our school and the four years lying ahead. Our biggest thrill of the year was Homecoming and earning first prize on our Freshman float. Class officers for the year were: President -- Jerry Gilbertson Vice President -- Carole Paulson Secretary -- Joy Larson Treasurer -- Verna Baukol During the next year we were more accustomed to our high school life and began to really study and, also, to join more clubs and to take part in extra curricular activities: This year's officers were: President -- Vern Engebretson Vice President — Marge Wallen Secretary — Jerry Johnson Treasurer — Cleo Priebe Time passed quickly and soon we were all back in school ready to receive nine more months of education. Class officers were elected immediately and those chosen were: President -- Joy Larson Vice President -- Verna Baukol Secretary -- Marge Wallen Treasurer -- Jerry Johnson Our Junior year brought many happy and exciting experiences, but one which stands out more than any other was our Junior-Senior Prom. It took place in the school gym on April 27, 1956. We enjoyed preparing for it, decorating the gym, and above all, dancing in a Garden of Roses during a lovely spring evening. Our last year in school brought with it lots of work along with more fun. We received another first rating on our Homecoming float. We Seniors had many extra details to take care of such as taking Senior pictures, sending out graduation announcements and invitations, and finally -- graduation. There were thirty seven of us who graduated in the village hall on May 24, 1957. Those who headed the vyork of our class during the year were: President — Marge Wallen Vice President -- Joy Larson Secretary -- Vern Engebretson Treasurer — Carole Paulson 19 PROPHECY It is June 5, 1967. Mrs. Don Mikkelsen (Nee Shirley Lillie) wonders if she might contact her former classmates to see if they can get together for a class reunion. She and her husband, Donald, own a large motel, THE PARADISE, so they will be.willing to let the guests stay there. The first person she contacts is Janis Heyer (a close friend) who is a jet pilot for Floating Air Airlines. Janis volunteers to pick up the people who live out of town with her private jet. They decide to meet at the Cool Spot cafe downtown in Reeve City, Wisconsin, which has become a thriving metropolis. Shirley calls the Quick Service Taxi Company, which is owned by James Christensen, for a taxi. Arriving at the cafe, the girls find the owner to be none other than Mr. Rodney Witt-stock. They immediately tell him of their plans, and he says he will be glad to come. After lunch they made a list of their former classmates who live in and around Reeve City. They find Carolyn Beyl and Sharon Asp are singers at the Silver Bell Night Club. This night club is owned by Neil Rogers and Harvey Thomas. To their surprise, they find Cleo Priebe and Janice Breslin as head waitresses. They will all be glad to come. The next people they contact are Phyllis Austinson, Marian Wallberg, and Corrine Peterson, who are inseparable. They are owners of a boarding house for bachelors. The girls are delighted to hear of the reunion and plan to come. Shirley and Janis discover that Vern Engebretson is the owner of the Dairy Plant at Reeve City. They call him at his office. His secretary, Verna Baukol, answers the phone. She says she will tell Vern and also contact two former classmates who are employed in the plant, Gary Daniel, and Larry Swager. Verna states that she is sure they will all come. Jerry Gilbertson, who is head coach at the Reeve City University, and Marjorie Wallen and Joy Larson, who are teachers there, are contacted. They too, think it is a splendid idea and plan to attend. Of course there are a number of former classmates who are prosperous farmers. They are Gerald Austinson, Dale Schuna, Vernon Amundsen, and Allen Gale. These boys are contacted and plan to attend the reunion. Dave Clemmens is manager of the Reeve City Daily, which is a thriving newspaper. He will be delighted to come also. This list seems to take care of all the people in Reeve City, so Shirley says she will go home and have her secretary, Nancy Barthman, write letters to the rest of them. Joan Bulman and Grace Titel work in South St. Paul in factories; Barbara Klatt is married and lives on a large ranch in Montana; Jerry Johnson and Wayne Logan are famous doctors; Elenore Ostenson and Vicky Hawkins work in New York as private secretaries; Carole Paulson is a Missionary who travels in Africa; Patsy White is a model for Paris Creations in Chicago, Illinois, which is owned by Patty Johnson. Last but not least, Pat Witthoft has taken Hedda Hopper's place in Hollywood. June 28 hails as a bright and sunny day. Janis has picked up everyone the previous night so they are all set to get an early start. They decide to go to Green Acres Park which is located near Clear Lake Beach, which is a suburb of Reeve City. Each and everyone enjoys himself immensely as he looks back over his years in school and his many experiences since 1957. As they depart, tired but happy, they hope to meet again in ten years. 20 UNDERCLASSES JUNIORS CLASS OFFICERS AND ADVISORS Mr. Bernardy, Mr. Banks, Mr. Sandberg, Ed Vick, Sandra Setter, Carol Benson, Duane Klatt.
