When he arrived, he was very much surprised to discover it was the home of one of his former classmates, Carl Paulson. In talking over a cup of coffee, which his wife (nee Ethel Olson), had prepared for them, they began reminiscing about the days back in Clear Lake High, thinking how much fun it would be to see all their old classmates again. They decided to have a class reunion on June, 1966. Leslie Pittman's hotel would be the ideal place for such a reunion so, arrangements made to use it. Leslie said he would give the assistance of his secretary, Elsie Junkans, in calling together all the class of 1956. It was hard at first to locate the class members, but each seemed to be in contact with someone else in the class. Elsie knew Marilyn Krebbs was a missionary-nurse in Madagascar so she contacted her. On the trip home she discovered that Marcia Christensen was the stewardes s on the plane. Marilyn told Marcia of the class reunion and she said she would tell their pilot, Wayne Moore, about it right away. Wayne picked up a newspaper at a short stop and read that the band Ed Hemauer, a famous trumpet player, was playing for was opening that night. He phoned him immediately to tell him of the reunion. Wayne also wired his brother, Duane, a famous artist, about the reunion. During all this time, Elsie was busy writing to and calling class member s. She found that Clara Knoll was a nurse at the Clear Lake Hospital, and Cordelia Kuhn was the head x-ray technician there. Cordelia said she would tell Carol Rothe, who was now married and working as a part-time receptionist at the hospital, about it. Elsie continued contacting them by getting in contact with the Football Coach of Wisconsin State University at Clear Lake, Dan Smith. Next, she located the County Agent, Gary Dado, who in turn got in touch with another of the prosperous farmers, Curtiss Nordby. Curt brought some of his machinery to Eugene Schuna's garage where he found that Harley Hanson had just been hired as a mechanic. He told them of the reunion; they were very pleased about the plans. Karen Fox,a psychiatrist in New York, received a letter from Elsie telling her about the whole plan. In a return letter, Karen said she would see Pat Olson, a dress designer for Sak's 5th Avenue, at a style revue where Mary Ann Petersen would be modeling for some French designers, and tell them about it. Mary Ann said she would tell her beautician Margaret Knutson, about the reunion, too. Jack Mayala, a local minister, was notified by Elsie. Jack knew the addresses of Larry Breeden and Roy Flanum, buddies in the Navy, and volunteered to write of it to them. The class reunion thus got underway. It was held at Leslie's hotel and all 27 class members attended. A good time was had by all as they discussed their previous years in high school. ir CLASS HISTORY In September, 1952, 36 eager, green Freshmen reported for the first year of their high school career. Aside 3f BAND AND CHOIR HISTORY The Clear Lake Music Department, under the direction of Mr. Jack Allen, had completed a busy and interesting year. Mr. Allen has attempted, through performances, to teach fundamentals of good musicianship along with a stronger sense of responsibility toward self and fellow students. The Senior Band has 67 members ranging from eighth grade to the senior year in high school. The Band Mother's Club has done much to further the development of a better band through the purchasing of new instruments as well as new majorette uniforms. Rural students as well as town have a chance to participate in the program. Mr. Allen makes weekly visits to each country school in the integrated system and once a month students combine for a joint band rehearsal. A total of 90 grade school musicians are taking part in the program. The Choir, numbering 1 00 high school students has played an active part in school. They gave a Christmas and Spring Concert, took part in a Choir Clinic at Centuria and entered the Spring Music Festival at Rice Lake. Football Record The Clear Lake Warriors reported to coach Vic Bernardy at the opening practice with eager faces but all with experience lacking. With the '54 Seniors graduating, went the football team too. As we all know they will go down in hi story as being one of Clear Lake's best. The Warriors of '55 suffered 8 straight losses in football. They played hard in every contest but were unable to overcome their opponent. The outlook for next year is a little brighter. The Warriors opened the season onSeptember 9, at Boyceville. Clear Lake lost 30-0. The Warriors opened conference play on September 16, they were hosts to a very powerful Chetek team. They were defeated by the Bulldogs 25-6. Rodney Wittstock made the lone touchdown for the Warriors. Clear Lake journeyed to Bruce on September 23, to be defeated 25-0. Clear Lake suffered another loss on September 30, Turtle Lake stopped the Warriors 20-0. Clear Lake lost to Prairie Farm 43-0, on October 7, the defeat came on the Panthers field. The Warriors again lost to Cameron, October 12, 34-6, on the local grid-iron. Dan Smith scored the touchdown on a 56 yard run. This was the annual Dad's Night event. The Clayton Bears downed Clear Lake 20-0, on October 21. The Warriors lost to Weyerhauser 26-20 in the final seconds of the game. This was the final game of the season October 28. The Warrior fans saw Dan Smith score 2 touchdowns and 2 extra points. Darrell Martin scored the other Warrior TD. The graduating Seniors are: Dan Smith, Wayne Mork, Duane and Wayne Moore, Carl Paulson, Eugene Schuna, and Curt Nordby. 43 BASKETBALL A TEAM KNEELING: D. Schuna, Mr. Bernardy. STANDING: D. Moore, D. Martin. ’55 Basketball Season Clear Lake didn't set any records in basketball but played good ball in nearly every game. The boys started slowly at the beginning of the year but improved as the season went along. The Warriors opened their basketball season November 29, journeying to Roberts and losing 39-58. They lost to Turtle Lake on December 2, 27-69 on Turtle Lake's floor. The Blue-clad boys beat Balsam Lake 48-33, December 6 on Balsam Lake's floor. Clear Lake then on Friday night lost to Prairie Farm, one of the strongest teams in the conference, 89-46. They lost to Clayton 40-57, on December 16. Coming back after Christmas vacation the Warriors were beaten by Shell Lake 79-24. On January 13, Clear Lake dropped Centuria 56-44, on the Warrior court. The next Tuesday night they defeated Roberts 66-48. The tide changed again for three games. They lost to Turtle Lake 39-32, Prairie Farm 91-31, and Balsam Lake 53-48. The Warriors won over Clayton 55-47 on February 2. Clear Lake lost to Shell Lake 59-47 and Centuria 67-50 to end the season. In tournament they lost to Centuria 49-34 and defeated Balsam Lake 55-45 and lost to Luck in the consolation play-offs 69-60. We might add that coach Vic Bernardy did a very fine job with the boys, they were all green as the season opened but had definitely improved through the course of the year. Baseball Record The Warriors didn'tdo so well in baseball having a 1-3 record suffering defeats at the hands of Shell Lake 21-3 on April 30; Clayton 5-4 on May 10; and Prairie Farm 13-3 May 14. The Warriors defeated the Shell Lake 9 on May 3, 13-10. Clear Lake's record doesn't show truly the hard playing that was done. Dan Smith was Clear Lake's pitcher, doing a good job considering this being his first year on the mound. The outlook for next year is more promising if the pitching department can be materialized. ■« CHEERLEADERS Cleo, Carol, Karen, Cordelia. Cleo, Carol, Karen, Cordelia.
