FOOTBALL The Lions, turned in a very successful season on the gridiron this year with a season record of 4 - 3 - 1. They finished in third place in the conference. A superior defensive unit held the opponents to only 46 points while the offensive team piled up an over-all score of 71. This year two members of the team received All-State honors. Iohn Hax- ton was placed on the seventh All State team and Grant Wright was placed on the second All-State team. Grant was also awarded Honorable Mention on a national All-Star squad. Clear Lake 7 - Forest City 13. An inexperienced team took the field against Forest City for the first game of the season. The TD came on a pass from Pierce to Winders. Clear Lake 7 - Clarion 0. The game was played on even termsfor the first three quarters, but in the fourth quarter the Lions put on an offensive drive which carried them 72 yards to the Clarion 3-yard line. After a series of plays, Clarion was forced to punt. The Lions took the ball on their own 46 and marched 'down to score with only 50 seconds left in the game. Clear Lake 13 - Iowa Falls 14. One long run gave the Cadets the score to win 'the game. Hovelson and Huntley scored for the Lions. Clear Lake 13 - Webster City 0. With a field of puddles, water and mud, the Lion's defensive unit held Webster City down. When Iohn Hax- ton recovered a Webster City fumble on their 23rd, the team took the ball down to score. Iim Hovelson went over from the first on a quarterback sneak. In the third quarter, Lincicutm intercept- ed a pass and ran 90 yards for a touch- down. Clear Lake 13 - Algona 0. The Lions won their first Homecoming Game in five years. Before he was injured, Beedle played an outstanding game. A pass from Pierce to Huntley scored the first TD: Pierce ran for the second. Clear Lake 12 - Humboldt 0, The defensive held Humboldt to a 1-ycad in the first half. Two passes scored the TD's. Clear Lake 0 - Eagle Grove- 12. Two long passes scored the points for Eagle Grove. Both teams held the other to a stand still on the ground. Clear Lake 7 - Hampton 7. Huntley scored fthe touchdown for the Lions af- ter an 80-yard drive sparked by Linci- cum. Haxton, Wright, Funte, and Miller were standouts on defense.

COACHES Bob Erwin Bob Erwin is an assistant coach. His first year of college was spent in the Navy at Southeast Missouri State College at Cape Girardeau, Mo. He played football and basketball during his one year there. He transferred to Iowa State College at Ames in l945 and graduated from there in 1949. He was on the football squad all four years while at Iowa State. He then attend- ed another year at Iowa State. While he was there, he coached both boys' and girls' basket- ball at Shipley Consolidated Schonol near Ames. Here, he was also baseball coach. Mr. Erwin is a mathematics instructor as well as an assistant coach. Del Mully Del Mully is our baseball and basketball coach. This is his third year at Clear Lake and he is doing a wonderful job. He started attend- ing college at Iowa State Teachers College when the war interrupted his progress. He went into the armed services in 1943. Alter two years, he went back to T. C. to finish his schooling. He majored in physical education and minored in mathematics and commercial subjects. While in college he played basketball. Mr. Mully coach- ed at Forest City and St. Olaf College before he came to Clear Lake. Beside his coaching duties, he teaches algebra, driver training and is a C Club sponsor. Charles Edwards Chuck is our science teacher. He attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls where he majored in chemistry and biology and minored in mathematics and safety education. During his last two years at I. S. T. C. he was on the varsity wrestling team. Before coming to Clear Lake, he taught at Iessup, Iowa. Besides his teaching duties, Chuck is a C Club spon- sor, Science Club advisgor, assistant football coach, and head coach of the golf team. Dyle Martin Pep is head football and track coach and assistant basketball coach. He received his B.A. degree from Simpson and his M. A. from Drake. While in college Pep played football, base- ball, and track. Before coming to Clear Lake he served four years in the Coast Guard and taught three years at Tama, Iowa. Along with his coaching, Mr. Martin teaches social science, sociology, physical education, and is a sponsor of C Club. 1
