Row Z - Mr. Gillespie, Larry Watson, Grant Wright, Roger Claesgens, Bill McBee. MASQUE AND GAVEL Our chapter of the National Masque and Gavel is known as the Golden Masque Chapter of Clear Lake High School. This group is responsible for the presentation of all the dramatic productions and also for all high school speech activities. A student is eligible in his sophomore year, providing he has par- ticipated either in dramatic work or in speech activities. Students who carry out these requirements and who desire to become members of the Masque and Gavel are then voted upon by the old members. The membership at pres- ent consists of eleven members. Underclassmen who are interested in becoming members of the Masque and Gavel should take advantage of every opportunity to participate in all speech activities, on stage and back stage, and in all speech contest work. During the year the activities of the club included an all-school play, The Curious Savage 5 a one-act festival play, Sparkan 5 a one-act contest play, Why I am a Bachelor : and another all-school play to be presented in the spring. Not Picture Gerald Stevens, Norman Fnoiland, Eleanor Froiland, Beia Noland. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC The Clear Lake High School band is composed of 75 members, all of whom are in High School. The band has given concerts at the Lions Club, the Rotary Club, the 500 Club, and also a Winter Concert for the public. During the year the band has played at Luther College and Cresco High School. The band has appeared in various places, including the Mason City Bancl Festival, the Northwood Viking's Day, the Clear Lake Fourth of Iuly Pa- rade, Governor's Day and Band Day at Ames. The band played at home foot- ball games, and was the official band to meet Vice President Nixon at the Mason City Municipal Airport on his speaking tour in October. 48
