LIBRARY CLUB The Library Club was organized in 1945. It helps to encourage a desire and an enthusiam 'towards reading among the students. The members are the school4 librarians. Their responsibilities are to charge books, to check circula- tion, to take inventory, to keep the library quiet and orderly, and to promote better school spirit. Standing -- verly Duesenberg, Pat Henson, Linda Kotz, Phyllis Miller, Miss Chambers, Mary Io Conn, Karen Fisher. The Future Teachers of America, commonly known as F. T. A., is a new local club this year. The club is affiliated with the National Future Teachers of America. The Cerro Gordo unit was organized at Mason City in 1953. The purpose of the club is to inform students about the teaching profession. For this purpose meetings are held in the various member towns. The Clear Lake Chapter was host at the county meeting on February 10. There are fifteen members in the local chapter. Merit points are earned and a cer- tificate is awarded at the end of the year to the members who have earned 200 merit points. Points are earned through work in community and school activities, and individ- ual and group projects. The officers of the group were Iudy Lerdal, President: Linda Kotz, Vice President: Mary Io Conn, Secretary-Treasurer: Beverly Duesenberg, Reporter: Miss Chambers, Sponsor.

Iudy White. The Girls Athletic Association is a medium by which girls can express themselves in sports. Play-for Play's Sake is the motto of the organization. The purpose of the G. A. A. is to foster a spirit of good sportsmanship and co-operation and to stimulate in- terest in a variety of wholesome recreational activities. Points are earned in intarmural tournaments and in outside activities. For 500 points, numerals are awarded: for 750 points, a letter is awarded: and for 1000 points a G. A. A. pin and certificate are award- ed. Any girl is eligible to become a member of G. A. A. as .soon as she earns 100 points. Among the sports programs provided, the most favored is the intramural basket- ball tournament. The district G. A. A. play days are held twice each year at the var- ious schools.
