PC2, the physics and chemistry club, is under the direction of Mr. Charles Edwards, the science instructor. The club is affiliated with the Iunior Academy of Science of Iowa, and the Science Clubs of America, which it joined in the past year. The aims of the club are to promote scientific interest and to give to its members a chance to increase and develop their general scientific knowledge and skills. There were seventeen members this year. Each member had his own project. The meetings were held on Wednesday evening in the science room. A special program featuring a noted speaker or a group project was presented at each meeting. Any sophomore, junior or senior with a B average or above in science for one year is eligible for membership. The officers of the club were Corine Ashland, President: Margaret Mona- ghen, Vice President: Ioan Kuecker, Secretary: and Allen Iohannesen, Treas- urer. 43

The fourteen-member staff of the Clear Lake Hi-Lights spends many hours each week trying to put out a paper. Since Clear Lake High School otfers no course in Iournalism, the paper is put out atter school hours by volunteer workers. In spite of the fact that the Hi-Lights is a mimeographed newspaper, its staff has a dead- line to meet muchi the same as any other newspaper. This is necessary because production by this method means typing copy, retyping copy, and still more retyping. The production staff has an endless amount of work to do after the material is all in. This portion of the staff consists of Mary Rorvig, Shirley Highsmith, Rachel Zirbel Ioan Fuller and Ianet Palmer. In addition to this, the subscription lists need constant revision and records must be kept of paper, stencils, and various other materials which are used. This portion ofthe work is done by the Hi-Lights business manager, Marlys Olinger. r Reporters for the Hi-Lights are Mary Kruse, Terry Breheny, Evelyn Matson, Ina Lee Heit- ner, Gerry Brower, Ioan Braheny, Eleanor Schoonover and Linda Kotz. Ron Lang is sports reporter and Ianet Palmer is editor. The Hi-Lights advisor is Mr. McCallum. Miss Sponheim is censor and Miss Golberg is production advisor. 42

Susan Bower. Corine Ashland. Nan- cy Noll, Sally Carroll. Pep Club was organized in 1950 for the purpose of promoting better school spirit and more sportsmanship throughout the high school. Members of Pep Club are required to attend all meetings and games. To distinguish the members from the school body, the girls have chosen a uniform consisting of a white blouse, black skirt and gold sweater. The sponsor of this organization is Miss Walters. The officers are Presi- dent, Ianet Hugins: Vice President, Donna Moretz: Secretary, Lois Pugh: and Treasurer, Susan Bower. 44
