Lai WaLea IOHN I.. BRACKEN. A. M., Superintendent -lohn I.. Bracken, who has been Superintendent ot' the clayton Sehool System since 1923, is known in business circles as well as in the field of education. lle is much in demand as a public speaker, and has served a number of local com- tnnnitx organivations, often times in an executive ltllhllllf. lle is well known as an amateur photographer and has devoted considerable time and study to this hobby. l'ntil recent years, when the pressure of added duties made it impossible, he photo- graphed practically all of the group pictures for thc yearbook, All of the class groups were photographed by him this year. 'l'he superin- tendent also qualities as an amateur printer and has a small press and several fonts of type in his basement. Mr. Bracken was educated in the liarnarcl, Kansas, lligh School and received his Bachelor-'s degree from The Vollegc of lilHP0l'iZlQ his grad- uate work in education was done at the llniver- sity ot' Chicago from which he holds the Master's degree. 'l'he Clayton Superintendent has served as a member of the faculty of the lfdncation Depart- ment at both the llniversity of Chicago and XVashington l'niversity. He is co-author of the .'XlNllCRll','XN llliAl.'l'll SIfRllCS, textbooks in health education. llis activities ln the held of education and community service include the following: liditor of the Second Yearbook of the Depart- ment of lilementary School Principals of the National liducation Association, member of the Seventh Yearbook Commission of the same department. Chairman of the Yearbook Uommittee of the American Association of School Administra- tors-1943. Former president of the Missouri State Teachers' Association, the St. l.ouis Fonnty 'l'eachers' Association, and the County XVelfare Society. Member of the St. Louis Social Planning Uonncil. CARL BURRIS. A. M., Principal Carl Burris hasbeen principal of Clayton High School since l92-F. lle is well-known throughout Missouri as an authority on high school ath- letics and was instrumental in organizing the Missouri State lligh School Athletic Association in 1926. Since that time he has been secretary of that body continuously. lle was educated in the Ridgeway, Mo., lligh School, XVarrensbnrg State 'l'eachers' college, took his graduate work at fhicago l'nivt-rsiti, Volorado l'niversity and VVashington l'niver- sity, from which he received his master's degree, Mr. Burris began his career in education as xi rural teacher in Harrison County, Mo. He served as Superintendent of Schools at New Bloomtield and at New llaven, Mo. After serving in the ll. S. Arrny in the tirst VVorld VVar, he taught science in Sioux Cirv, Iowa, and became Supt. of Consolidated Schools at Sloan, Iowa. From there he came to Clayton. lle is a past president of the flaytou Rotary Club and enjoys cultivating his farm during the summer recess at New llaven, Mo.
