ACTIVITIES Freshman Party On Frrday October 6 1950, the other three classes rn Clayton I-hgh gave a party for the Freshman Class We hung srgns around thexr necks labelrng them Freshmen for all the world to see Everyone danced to the rnusrc the schcol record player and enjoyed refreshrnents served by the Sophomores Operelta The hrgh s hool chorus under the drrectron of Joy e Armstrong gave the op eretta Sourwood Mountarn on October 20th The plot concerned a mountarn feud between the Adamses and the Jacksons Susie Adams fell rn love wrth Brlly Jackson for whom her brothers were gunnrng All ended happrly how ever wrth peace de lared and a rollr krng square dance completed the fun Semor Class Gzves Sock Dance After the Fortvrlle gaxne on December 8th the crowd rn the gym drdn t seem to thrn out as fast as usual Instead people crowded around and hecked therr shoes Soon the musrc began and everyone danced no shoes to the records Refreshments were okes hot dogs and popcorn Semor Play The Semor Class gave the play Dummy on December 13 1950 The play was drrected by Mrss Murphy Actzon centered around a very absent mrnded px ofessor a thug and thugess who stole a dramond sent to the professor for safe keepxng and a know rt all detectrve Romance was supplred by the professor s daughter and a young man who pretendrng to be deaf and dumb solved the mystery Chnstmas Party The annual hrgh school Chrrstrnas party was held rn the gym on December 22nd Decor atrons rncluded a huge tree trrmmed by the Sophomores Mus1c for dan :ng was provrded by Harold Applegate s Orchestra The Freshman grrls serw ed refreshments The hrghlxght of the evenrng was the passrng out of the grfts under the grant tree MUSIC Contest There were 17 entrzes from Clayton rn the Drstrrct Musr Contest held at Greencastle on February 10 1951 Ten were mstrumental and seven were vocal Srx of these entrzes recerved frrst and on February 17th went to State Contest at Terre Haute where they were placed as follows thrrd Steve M1 hael cornet second Norman Prke cornet Patty Clawson saxophone and the cornet trro composed of N Prke K Rxchardson and V Rr hardson and frrst Elrzabeth Stephenson soprano and Vu grma Rrchardson cornet 35 .
