IX qc O gi O F ,Jw Lane Crow Ranch Wyoming Dear Liz l vsent home to Indiana for a month s vacat1on recently and while Iwas there l went to the Wharnum and Daly Circus in Indianapolis lmagme my surpr1se when I discovered the tight rope walker was none other than Audrey Settles our old classmate She had married soon after graduation but she soon grew tired of taking care of the brats so she ran away and Joined the circus Wo. got to talking about our classmates and it seemed that she had seen most of them in her travels Those she hadn t seen I had heard from so we had a very pleasant v1s1t talkmg over old times on his second million Lyle Main became an engineer He is now working on a blueprint for a new Brooklyn B1 idge The old one mysteriously disappeared on the night of May Z5 1951 Bill Neely became a missionary and went to the Hawaiian Islands where he spent his entire life trying to convince the Hula girls that dancing was wrong B111 Vkoessner became a great orator and is known as the Darling of Speech Teac her'-. Harmon Lewis became a race jockey and married the bookie Phyllis Chambers The last we heard of them they had bought a yacht and were on a trip up the river 14 IN AWA f f ll . History of The Class of 51 In September of 1947 the Class of 1951 composed of 32 students entered Clayton Hxgh School Followmg tradltxon and the wxshes of the Semor Class we were duly 1n1t1ated on the thmrd Frxday of September as full fledged Green1es We elected DaV1d Western as our Presldent V1rg1n1a Rlchardson was V1ce Pres1dent Everett Pyle was Secretary and Paul Elmore was Treasurer Our sponsors were Mrs West and Mr Wallace We chose as our class colors Blue and Whxte and our flower the Amer1can Beauty Rose Later ln the yr ar B111 Neely joxned our class lncreasmg xts number to 33 That wxnter the Freshman gnrls won a Freshman Sophomore g1rls basketball game swellmg our deflated ego a lxttle In the sprlng the whole school had a pxcnlc at Tux key Run State Park Then summer xacahon came endmg forever our days as Greemes When we began our Sophomore year we found we had lost exght oi our Freshman class mates and we had one new member Donald Morgan We elected as our offxcers Ronald Martzn Presldent Jlm Abney Vxce Presxdent Paul Elmore Secretary and Vxrgzma Rxchardson Treasurer Mrs Kxrkpatrxck and Mr Schaffer were elected as sponsors Our Sophomore year sped by punctuated by the wxnmng of the Frosh Soph gxrls basket ball game and gettmg our blue and whxte class sweaters The year ended wlth the hlgh school p1cn1c at McCorm1ck s Creek State Park When we returned as .Tumors after the summer vacatxon we found two more members had dropped from our ranks Russell Penrod was wlth us for the fxrst txme We elected as Presxdent Ronald Martm as V1ce Presldent J1m Abney as Secretary Vlrgmxa Rxchardson as Treasurer Paul Elnmore and as sponsors Mrs Betty Alltop and Mr Everett Greene Th1s was the year we got our class rmgs Famous names from our class were Phyllxs Chambers who was one of the hlgh school cheerleaders and Plggy Martm who was one of the student managers We gave a Cupld s Holiday dance on February 11 1950 On Apnl Zlst we gave our Junxor Play Grandpa s Twm Sxster Sophomore and .Tumor boys W1l1 Be sl played the Semor boys Has Been s and won 34 to ZZ On May 19 1950 we gave a recept1on for the Semor Class at Skyland Lodge near Spencer Thus went our .Tumor year In September 1950 our class now composed of Z4 members began the Senxor year We chose Davxd Hxcks for Presldent for Vxce Presldent Lyle Main Secretary V1rg1n1a Rxchardson and Treasurer Ralph W1ll1ams Our sponsors are Mr Charles H Baldwm and Mrs Betty Alltop We chose as our motto Tomght We Take Off Where Shall we Land In the memory of our own 1n1t1at1on we made the 50 51 Freshmen feel as Green as we could at the Freshman party by means of hangmg labels around the1r necks etc A few weeks later we all went wxth the baseball team to Northwestern 1-hgh School near Kokomo and made a day of xt by gomg to a movle at Indxanapohs on the way back On December 8th we gave a Sock Dance m the gym On Wednesday December 13th we presented our Senxor Play Dummy Ronald Martxn and .hm Abney are the student managers thxs year for the basketball team Thus went the four years of hlgh school for the Class of 51 Now as we graduate xn a flurry of Amerxcan Beauty Roses caps gowns and dmplomas we thmk back over the past four years and remember 13 I I Ll . . l ' I I ' 'I , ., , ' - an ' 11 1 - ' 1 .
