Just common kids With common dreams Much greater than ourselvesg Who, for a while, have put the books Of learning on the shelves. Though we'll say goodbye to school days As the future before us towers, There is something that goes out with us That forever will be ours. Do you remember the thrill that came In beating the Bay in a football game? Or the times when we'd raise the roof of the hall When our boys would score at basketball? We won't forget, though others do Our twelve year stay with the gold and blue, But leave this Fort of Knowledge the proudest class alive To take our place in the annals of history As the graduates of '45. -HELEN SLATE. 27 liurlr ln'nu'.' In previous years a few students submitted school notes for publication in our weekly news- paper, but the organization of a club makes possible more effective coverage and greater regularity in supplying' news of our school to parents and friends. The news is collected and written up by students according to assign- ments posted each week by the editor-in-chief. Copy is read by Mr. Wells, the club advisor. Besides these periormances, they have appeared in assembly programs and the Christ- mas program. The annual Spring Concert gave the Senior hand as well as the 45 piece Junior band the opportunity to play again for their parents. The Senior hand expects to be in the Memorial Day parade again this year after which they will complete their year's activity by playing at Commencement. The enthusiasm and ability of the Junior band promise that some of its members will soon join the ranks of Senior hand. 44 lim-If In'ol1'.' I . lhnlygv. Slnlv. Under her direction the Glee Club gave several outstanding performances during the year. Led by Miss Marion Allen, a cadet teacher from Potsdam State Teachers' College, they sang at an assembly program. They assisted in the I Am An American Day Program in May, and, to- gether with the band, presented an annual spring concert. They will help with the commencement activities in June. The Future Farmers of America is an organization of boys taking vocational agriculture. This year the 1000 Islands Chapter's money mak- ing activities included dances, collecting milkweed pods and selling seeds. The first father and son banquet was held early in the spring. All fourteen members worked on a point system for prizes and other awards. The best all around member from the Ag. II class received 35. from the American Agriculturist. Special prizes were awarded for individual con- tests. Money made for the chapter was used for prizes, buying jackets, sweaters and letters for the members who had the required number of points. Qaaflzzl The football team of '45 under the direction of Coach Allen started the season with only eight lettermen of last year's squad. It Was due mostly to this inexperience that the team succeeded in tying only three games in their six encounters. The boys played good defensive football all season, especially in the Pulaski and Alexandria Bay games. Coach Allen awarded eighteen letters to the players who contributed most to the team. The team had only two lettermen from last year's squad, the rest being small and inexperienced. With this handicap they succeeded in playing spirited ball all season, and did not give up, even to the last minute of play. The captain, Stanley Palmer, was high scorer with ninety-one points. Ingerson and Pilon following with fifty and forty points respectively. Coach Allen awarded ten letters to the players who worked the hardest and played the best basketball. Six girls attended nightly practices and at a special assembly each of these girls tried-out. Members of the faculty acted as judges and each girl was given a score with points given for various qualifications. The scores were so -close that all six girls were chosen making a total of nine cheerleaders. The-cheerleaders attended all the football games with the exception of 'the one at Pulaski, which they were obliged to miss because of lack of transportation. Also, the cheerleaders have been present at all home basketball en- counters and have been able to attend a few out-of-town games. The student body, teams, teachers and spectators should be proud of the cheerleaders. They have unofficially been proclaimed the best in the league. 54 X 556555 ,vw- E5 .vat Y . - , .,.l,- ...Q- Noun WU- ISUXIUNIS NEWS -3 a ffie J!A!Z!ll9B'Z!l5.'
