x Maxwell Places if 3 ln Ohio This season the Claymont wrestlers compiled an 8-5 record, finish- ing second in the Senate League. Coach Mel Peters was pleased with this year's effort, since the team was made up of mostly sopho- mores. Claymont started off on the right track by defeating a tough Akron Tallmadge 39-28. Claymont took Akron Kenmore down to the wire, but was defeated 34-30. Claymont at their next match defeated New Phila quite handily by a 39-I8 count. The Mustangs seemed to start getting their act together when they clobbered Sandy Valley 4620. But injuries plagued the Mustangs in their next match when five starters were out of the lineup. This hurt the Mustangs, as they lost to Coshocton 36-27. But after the loss to Coshocton, Claymont won three straight by defeating Meadowbrook, Dover and Barnesville. Claymont then had 5 key Senate League matches. Claymont lost two straight heart- breakers as they were defeated 34-27 by Minerva and 3l- 28 by Northwest. But the Mustangs didn't give up, as they came back to defeat the next two out of three Senate opponents. They beat Tuslaw 36-24 and Lake 32-2l, but not before losing a heartbreaker to Carrollton 29-23. The Mustangs did well in invitational and tournament play. Clay- mont came in an excellent third in seventeen teams at the Sandy Valley Invitational. They next traveled to the Barnesville tourney and placed fifth out of twelve teams. They then finished third in the All-County Tournament. The post-season tournament action saw Claymont get out to a great start by placing first in the sectionals. The Mustangs dropped a notch and placed second in the districts, sending Brian and Steve Maxwell to the State Tournament in Columbus. Brian, who had a record career win by compiling 83 wins against I7 losses, had the highest place finish in the state tournament in Claymont history by placing third. 585' I. Wrestling team. Row I. D.
