National Honor Society .NATIONAL iH ON OR A SOCIETY y, The National Honor Society was established in Clay Town- ship High School in 1961. Its establishment was the fulfill- ment of a need for the recognition of the basic qualities which suggest that students are outstanding citizens in their school community. The requirements for membership are as follows: The student must be either a sophomore, junior, or senior who has achieved and continues to maintain a B academic grade average. The student must have contributed and continue to contribute a significant service to his immediate school com- munity. His capacity for leadership must have been demon- strated both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities and organizations. And in addition, he must demonstrate high moral character in his activities. The basic purpdse of the National Honor Society is to recognize the cardinal principles of scholarship, leadership, character, and service which are essential to the development of productive leaders and citizens in a democratic society.
