Class History In the fall of 1958, 38 eager freshmen entered the hallowed halls of Clay Township anxious to begin their journey through high school. For our leaders we chose Roger Oldham, President; John Rickard, Vice-President; DiAnne Childers, Secretary; Anita Miles, Treasurer; and Mr. Max Brewer was our sponsor. That year Gene Hedrick and Eddie Crocker were our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival. The following September we resumed our studies again. This year we elected DiAnne Childers, President; Roger Oldham, Vice-President; Janellyn Hahn, Secretary; Eileen Bowman, Treasurer; Becky Russell, Reporter; and John Rickard, Student Council Rep- resentative. Mr. Ray Wagner and Mrs. Carol Bargerhuff were our sponsors. We found that we lost Eddie Crocker, Jerry Glassburn, Vera Margarette Hahn, Bob Hawkins and Glenn Hershberger; but we gained Bill Baker and Steve Strange. This year our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival were Roger Oldham and Janellyn Hahn. Janellyn Hahn was elected varsity cheerleader. The highlight of our sophomore year was receiving our class sweaters and jackets. They were black with red lettering. The first week of September found us once more beginning another year as supposedly older and wiser juniors. This year our sponsors were Miss Evangeline Thomas, Mr. Ray Wagner, and Mr. Don Bodager. Our officers were: President, Clarence Medlen; Vice-President, Anita Miles; Secretary, Becky Russell; Treasurer, Jeanie Martin; Reporter, Nancy Herrell; Business Manager, John Rickard; and Student Council Representative, Roger Oldham. We lost Bill Baker, Herschel Crain, James LaFerney, John McMasters, Phillip Miller, Helen Phillipy, and Steve Strange; but we gained Mary Gannon. Our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival were Dick Wood and Judy Watson. One of the special events of our junior year was receiving our class rings. To make money we sold concessions at the ball games. We also presented our first play, Maybe You ' re Wrong. Our biggest social event of the year was when we entertained the seniors at Honeywell Memorial in Wabash. After the reception our parents sponsored a party at the Miami gym. September 5, 1961, we began our long-awaited senior year at Clay Township deter- mined to make it the best possible. We were sorry to find that we had lost Beverly Strange and Linda Bowling, but we gained Gary Brankle. This left us with twenty-seven mem- bers. Under the leadership of Miss Evangeline Thomas and Mr. Max Brewer we chose: Roger Oldham, President; John Rickard, Vice-President; Becky Russell, Secretary; and Nancy Herrell, Treasurer; Dave Minor, Reporter; and Eileen Bowman, Student Council Representative. Roger Oldham was elected Student Council President, and Janellyn Hahn was once again re-elected varsity cheerleader. To our delight Bill Newman and Carol Riley reigned as king and queen over the Halloween Festival. October 13 and 14 we presented the Senior play, The Birds and the Boys. The year ended with the traditional festivities honoring the Seniors: Junior-Senior Reception, May 18; Baccalaureate, May 20; and Commencement, May 21. The final climax of our four years at Clay ended with the long-awaited Senior trip to Washington, D.C., and New York City. 19
