Yes, you are a typical teenager go steady — about five months dress up — heels for her — tie for him you know how to drive — have your own car. You are a typical high school student you go all out for sports — especially basketball high school days are your delights — but don ' t compare with high school nights. Your daily schedule is a familiar pattern of high school life get up at 6:30 — maybe 7:00 — some- times oversleep — go at break-neck speed to class — you snack — drink cokes — watch television — listen to the radio while doing homework — munch candy bars and hamburgers you enjoy school but hate to admit it — study some — three hours a night — no a week — average A — well maybe C — anyway you make the grade — but you ' re satisfied because you are a teenager. With these thoughts in mind we have attempted to capture some of the events and memories of school, hoping that you may look back over the faded snapshots and remember the good old days at C.H.S. In later years while turning these pages, if you should recall the many smiles, sorrows, and dreams of ' 62, we shall be content, knowing that we have fulfilled our desires. I want to express my gratitude to the entire staff who has helped make this yearbook a success. I especially want to extend my thanks to Miss Evangeline Thomas for her interest and guidance. Without your untiring efforts the successful athletic sea- son and the Four-Way Tourney victory could never have been possible. Because of your un- selfish dedication and enthusiasm as a teacher and coach, it is with sincere gratitude that we express our appreciation. Mr. Wagner: We took our troubles to you at every turn along the paths of learning; and without your understanding, we would have been lost. You rejoiced with us when we were triumphant, and you gave us courage when we were disap- pointed. The plays were produced under the direction of your skilled hands, and in . the classroom your dedication to the field of edu- cation was fully demonstrated. We cannot thank you enough, but your friendship will live for- ever in our hearts. With deep affection and admiration we, the Senior Class of 1962, dedicate this Geronimo to Mr. Ray Wagner and Mr. Ben Bowles. % Mr. Max Brewer, Principal and Mrs. Martha Nichols, Secretary Ray Geyer County Superintendent Verlin Kling Township Trustee Wmm = k (Lx 1 Robert Adams B.S. Sponsored by HUFFER BEAUTY COLLEGE Kokomo, Indiana Class History In the fall of 1958, 38 eager freshmen entered the hallowed halls of Clay Township anxious to begin their journey through high school. For our leaders we chose Roger Oldham, President; John Rickard, Vice-President; DiAnne Childers, Secretary; Anita Miles, Treasurer; and Mr. Max Brewer was our sponsor. That year Gene Hedrick and Eddie Crocker were our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival. The following September we resumed our studies again. This year we elected DiAnne Childers, President; Roger Oldham, Vice-President; Janellyn Hahn, Secretary; Eileen Bowman, Treasurer; Becky Russell, Reporter; and John Rickard, Student Council Rep- resentative. Mr. Ray Wagner and Mrs. Carol Bargerhuff were our sponsors. We found that we lost Eddie Crocker, Jerry Glassburn, Vera Margarette Hahn, Bob Hawkins and Glenn Hershberger; but we gained Bill Baker and Steve Strange. This year our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival were Roger Oldham and Janellyn Hahn. Janellyn Hahn was elected varsity cheerleader. The highlight of our sophomore year was receiving our class sweaters and jackets. They were black with red lettering. The first week of September found us once more beginning another year as supposedly older and wiser juniors. This year our sponsors were Miss Evangeline Thomas, Mr. Ray Wagner, and Mr. Don Bodager. Our officers were: President, Clarence Medlen; Vice-President, Anita Miles; Secretary, Becky Russell; Treasurer, Jeanie Martin; Reporter, Nancy Herrell; Business Manager, John Rickard; and Student Council Representative, Roger Oldham. We lost Bill Baker, Herschel Crain, James LaFerney, John McMasters, Phillip Miller, Helen Phillipy, and Steve Strange; but we gained Mary Gannon. Our king and queen candidates for the Halloween Festival were Dick Wood and Judy Watson. One of the special events of our junior year was receiving our class rings. To make money we sold concessions at the ball games. We also presented our first play, Maybe You ' re Wrong. Our biggest social event of the year was when we entertained the seniors at Honeywell Memorial in Wabash. After the reception our parents sponsored a party at the Miami gym. September 5, 1961, we began our long-awaited senior year at Clay Township deter- mined to make it the best possible. We were sorry to find that we had lost Beverly Strange and Linda Bowling, but we gained Gary Brankle. This left us with twenty-seven mem- bers. Under the leadership of Miss Evangeline Thomas and Mr. Max Brewer we chose: Roger Oldham, President; John Rickard, Vice-President; Becky Russell, Secretary; and Nancy Herrell, Treasurer; Dave Minor, Reporter; and Eileen Bowman, Student Council Representative. Roger Oldham was elected Student Council President, and Janellyn Hahn was once again re-elected varsity cheerleader. To our delight Bill Newman and Carol Riley reigned as king and queen over the Halloween Festival. October 13 and 14 we presented the Senior play, The Birds and the Boys. The year ended with the traditional festivities honoring the Seniors: Junior-Senior Reception, May 18; Baccalaureate, May 20; and Commencement, May 21. The final climax of our four years at Clay ended with the long-awaited Senior trip to Washington, D.C., and New York City. 19 Agnes Wood Janellyn Hahn Perry Wood Roger Oldham Wheezer Wood John Lamb Mary Wood Jeanie Martin Miriam Smith Eileen Bowman Bill Pendleton Dick Wood Marie Nancy Herreli Dr. Strong David Minor Beatrice Strong DiAnne Childers Sue Ellen Strong Becky Russell Windy Coogan John Rickard Bromwood Fletcher Gene Hedrick Reverend Seagrove Clarence Medlen Conway Elliot Carl Zody Bill Newman Kate Thorolon Anita Miles Ann Winthrop Linda Bowling Prompters - Margarette Sharp Judy Watson Director Mr. Ray Wagner Maybe you ' re Wrong Zke Birds and the Boys Adam Martin Roger Oldham Cricket Martin Janellyn Hahn Tex Gene Hedrick Eyes Clarence Medlen Soapy Dick Wood Debbie Eileen Bowman Mrs. Barker Jeanie Martin Mrs. Kluckholm Nancy Herreli Mibs Becky Russell Hank Anita Miles Margarette Sharp Jim Kluckholm John Lamb Leslie Chatterton DiAnne Childers Hobart Worlhen John Rickard Gene Mike Fox Charlie Dave Minor Max Carl Zody Sooner Beanie ' s puppy Beanie Carol Riley Director Mr. Ray Wagner 20 J-ht mmr tfm Left to Right: Connie Dyar, Vice-President; Connie Zehring, Business Manager; Mike Fye, Reporter; Verba Bontrager, Treasurer; Karen Jenkins, Secretary; David Cagley, Assistant Business Manager; Jerry Miller, President. r M ' HI Verba Bontrager David Cagley IflBBHt «m W T Joe Clester John Clester Betty Cooley Rita Dangerfield Connie Dyar Mike Fye Bill Gaunt Barbara Greeson Sandy Helm Paula Helton Glenn Hershberger Karen Jenkins Jack Klein Judy Martin Joyce Mast Jerry Miller Cindy Newton Mike Puterbaugh Nancy Puterbaugh Phyllis Ramsey Junior Riley Bob Runyan Connie Sharp Judy Stites Mary Stout Russell Troyer Mary Ellen Waters Sherry Whaley Frank Whiterd Larry Wilson Darlene Wood {Juniors at Work SOPHOMORES Left to Right: David Mast, Treasurer; Charlotte Bowman, Secretary; Tom Agness, Vice- President; Jane Ann Berglan, President; Judy Miller, Reporter. Its responsibility is to introduce and discuss various suggestions from the student body and faculty. This is the student ' s opportunity to practice democracy in his immediate social situation. The Student Council is composed of representatives from each class and the organiza- tions. Each class, grades nine through twelve, has two representatives; the junior high provides one member; and the clubs and organizations have two representatives. The constitution states an order of rotation which makes its possible for each club to have its turn to furnish nominees. The student body, grades seven through twelve, and the faculty choose the president and the vice-president of the Student Council. Nominees for this office must be either a junior or senior who is a present member of the Student Council. The members of the Student Council elect the secretary and treasurer. The Student Council assumes the responsibility for the Halloween Festival, Courtesy Week, Cheerleader elections, Casual Day, Dress-up Day, Senior Day, and many other activities which are designed to make the Clay Township School a better place to acquire that all-important education. 48 National Honor Society .NATIONAL iH ON OR A SOCIETY y, The National Honor Society was established in Clay Town- ship High School in 1961. Its establishment was the fulfill- ment of a need for the recognition of the basic qualities which suggest that students are outstanding citizens in their school community. The requirements for membership are as follows: The student must be either a sophomore, junior, or senior who has achieved and continues to maintain a B academic grade average. The student must have contributed and continue to contribute a significant service to his immediate school com- munity. His capacity for leadership must have been demon- strated both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities and organizations. And in addition, he must demonstrate high moral character in his activities. The basic purpdse of the National Honor Society is to recognize the cardinal principles of scholarship, leadership, character, and service which are essential to the development of productive leaders and citizens in a democratic society. Dave Minor led Clay by scoring 31 points and grabbing 42 rebounds. Due to a large amount of snowfall, the players stayed in Peru that night. On Saturday Clay up-ended an undefeated North Caston team 59-56 by a great team effort. Four of five boys were in the double digits with Oldham and Fye leading with 14 points each. Minor contributed 13, Zody 11, and Rickard 7. The greatest reward of all came in the evening game. Clay beat Peru 62-51 with a great victory seeing Terry Fye col- lect 25 points and leading the way with terrific support from Minor, Oldham, Zody, and Rickard. Clay out-rebounded a big Peru team and held Tom Scott to eight points, which was considered a terrific defensive job. We were certainly proud of our boys, cheer section, and fans.
